I'm ready to rest. :D I have homework to do.

I'll be checking in every now and then to find out the recent cuts for the Vikes and around the NFL. Big day today!

Maybe the Vikings will surprise everyone and cut Ponder. I'm only kidding. That would be the day!

wow. this thread got weird.

want to know what the next step for ponder is? he needs to win. and win some more. and look more than capable while winning. otherwise the criticism will continue and he'll eventually be out of a job.

First, he needs to pull his head out of his butt... then, we can work on some things.

If Ponder could learn how to throw in single coverage (thanks to AD) it would show something, yes? I would think most competent rookies could pull this off, at least first round picks, and esp. 12 overall picks.

Lol at this thread. It used to be that this kind of thing wouldn't last past a few posts. Now we have pages and pages of "jabs" and call-outs. Its ok though. Whatever makes people happy.

It is more or less this kind of thing that gave birth to this group from a core of us on an old usenet newgroup. The lack of this kind of crap has generally been one of the distinctions of this group, relative to some of the others on the web.

Please, set the petty stuff aside. Agree to disagree, or Foe the person if you really cannot stand him/her. Otherwise, recognize that despite differences of opinion, we all bleed Purple.

We did foe the homer but he keeps replying to our posts, or taking shots at us. Then when we take his bait he starts attacking us. Anyone that possibly says anything negative or questionable is a target of his. Want to talk about a troll...

Wow, I'm gone for a day and I come back to... this. It's disappointing to say the least.

I realize we're all human and sometimes we can't resist "taking the bait" as Demi put it but everyone here, myself included, needs to make a better effort to take the high road and keep discussions civil before this board degenerates into the kind of mess that was the catalyst for it's creation (see PsyDanny's post above). There's room for passion, disagreements, a sense of humor and even some friendly ribbing but things around here are beginning to get anything but friendly and that's a real problem. However, it's a problem with an easy solution and all it takes is for people to make a genuine effort to be friendly. If you get angry and slip up, it's not that hard to be an adult and apologize. As a community of Vikes fans and football fans, we can do better than we've been doing.

I am the one guilty of "taking the bait". I get so sick of the negative spin put on the board by all of the same members all of the time. And I am not just talking about all of the Ponder bashing but the coaches, draft selections, uniforms, trades, cuts, free agents etc. . Of course a board is designed for discussion and certainly everyone has their own opinion about the team, players, draft, new stadium, upcoming season, past season, past and current players.
So the bait swallowing, purple-koolaid drinking, purple shade wearing, homer that I am has decided to just set back, enjoy reading the constructive comments by the vast majority of members and let the rest "go by". Those members that I have argued with I apologize for not being more understanding and to the rest of this board for having to have read it. After all, it is what it is and you won't change and neither will I about our attitudes towards the team. But we can change the nit picking and arguing that I have certainly been a part of.
I am looking forward to a great, entertaining season, will root hard for the home team, do not expect to win the Super Bowl, but will enjoy just the same. :smilevike:

In an attempt to get back to discussing football, and the QB position in particular, per the title of this thread...

I found this to be an interesting read about Vince Young: http://espn.go.com/blog/green-bay-packe ... ay-packers

VY is a pretty good illustration of just how difficult it is to find a franchise QB. Drafted highly after his very impressive National Championship victory over a USC team that was pretty widely hailed as one of the best teams ever, VY looked like a solid pick and a pretty sure bet for success in the NFL. Not the pocket passer mold, but a new type of QB that could run and pass well. Admittedly, he ran better than he passed. Leinart was viewed as a more traditional, pocket passer and also had shown a lot of the characteristics you want in your franchise QB.

A lot of whether a guy becomes a franchise QB is how the franchise handles his progression. Impatience is one of the major obstacles. It is a complex position that requires time to absorb all of the subtleties. Riding the bench and soaking it all in like Rodgers did is ideal. At the very least we have to give CP this season to see if things start to come together for him. If not, we run the risk of simply jumping ship from one prospect to the next, all of whom might very well turn out to be a VY or Matt Lienart.

Agreed, self moderation is the key. We all forget we are Viking fans here and adults, is it so hard to keep a civil conversation?

If you ask me that was Youngs last shot, ill be surprised we see him on a team at all again unless there is a mass injuries to qbs this year.
