OR they found a player they knew about that was one of the better ones available at a position lacking depth. Signed for cheap. How is this near-sighted? Beat guys are fine with it.

How many guys signed at this stage of the game ever really make an impact? Generally if a team has to rely on a guy signed now, they're going to be struggling at the position.

Bernard Berryman, Aromadoo, now Webb.

Obviously he wasn't earning starters money in Chi-town....so they didn't have the option to use him as a sub. I think they had other issues with him that went beyond performance.

Maybe, a change of scenery will help....but I'm dubious that this move makes us better.

That's what I'd heard. Motivation in the NFL is a tough one....especially the big dudes. McKinnie is a prime example. Once they cash some of those checks it can be a difference maker.

I would think that it makes more sense to spend time on a guy with a high motor than a guy who has proven to be sluggish....regardless of the talent they've shown. A good coaching staff has a real possibilty of improving techniques and performance.....but it is another thing to coach motivation, teaching a guy to care.

Like DP said, it's hard to imagine him being that much of an impact unless we get hit hard by injuries....but I would tthink that a younger guy would have more legit developmental upside.

But it’s all of little consequence if nobody can coax them out consistently. The Bears finally realized this, and acted accordingly.

It sums up his situation nicely. Webb drove Mike Tice nuts and I consider Tice a good motivator and o-line coach. If he couldn't get more out of Webb, I'm not optimistic.

Webb started for the Bears though. He won't see the field for the Vikings unless God forbid something happens to Kalil or Loadholt and if something did happen to them we're screwed anyway. It doesn't matter if its Webb, Kropog or Kevin Murphy replacing them. They all suck.

I still contend that there's a good chance that if either starting tackle goes down, the Vikings' plan would be to move Charlie Johnson to OT and plug in Jeff Baca or Joe Berger at guard. Try to find the lesser of those two evils - Charlie Johnson or J'Marcus Webb.

Actually, that comments sounds a bit near-sighted.

Felton played in Detroit but had stops in Carolina and Indianapolis before becoming a Viking.
Berger played for Miami and Dallas.
Carlson played for Seattle.
Simpson played for Cincinnati.
Cassel played for Kansas City and New England.
C. Johnson played for Indianapolis.
George Johnson played for Tampa Bay.
Evans started his career in Miami before coming to the Vikes.
Mitchell played in New Orleans and Miami.
Jefferson played in Arizona.

In other words, most of the free agents on the roster didn't play in the NFC North. Jennings, Felton and Webb were with other teams in the division. Am I forgetting somebody?

I didn't hear that but it makes sense, because you would think one or both of them would be on the Practice Squad unless they got claimed by another team. By waiving/injured them you can stash them on IR for next year without using PS spots.

If they were waived/injured then I think the final spot goes to either Kropog once he clears waivers (if he's even eligible), someone from another team or McCloud or Eubanks.

Is the waiver process any different, or is it still 24 hours? If the Vikings had wanted to place either one on IR, why couldn't they have just placed them on IR, like they did with Seth Olsen?
