The vikings had Brock Lesnar in camp but cut him before final rosters. He went on to be the UFC heavyweight champion of the World.
If you are wondering what does this have to do with the Kevin Willams and Sharrif Floyd situation, this is just mere evidence that the Vikings, in previous history, refuse to play a good player when they see one.
Hopefully Floyd will have a good season here. Too bad we will never get to see how the duo of Williams and Floyd would work. Then again, these our "smart" super bowl team building coaches.
HAHA. So funny. You're comparing some fake wrestler to a super bowl winning nose tackle. Completely irrelevant. We know why Brock Lesnar was cut, he was just plain awful and he wasn't even drafted, he was basically trying out. Gilbert Brown was actually a guy that the Vikings brought in themselves.
As for the Brock Lesnar joke, I assume you are ok with the Vikings making a mistake and building a losing team

Your nose tackle averaged .056 sacks a game and 2 tackles per game for his career. In '96, the year the Packers won the Super Bowl, he started all 16 games and managed one sack. For the season. And this was playing along the line with a guy like Reggie White who demanded extra attention, presumably freeing other guys up along the line to make a play.
And you say it like this guy willed the Packers to their SB season. He was an average DT who probably started due to lack of a better option who was on the team when they won the Super Bowl. TMac was recent on the San Antonio Spurs team who was in the NBA Finals, are the Rockets ticked they let him walk? Do you really think the Vikings lost any sleep over cutting this guy? Also not that the two administrations of now and then have anything to do with each other.

FYI: UFC and WWE are polar opposites
Of course the Vikings probably aren't losing any sleep. Thats why we have no super bowl rings. We don't care. Instead of trying to build potential guys like Gilbert Brown, who's probably done more in one game than the scrubs we have battling for the Nose position will ever do in their NFL career.
As for Tracy McGrady. Two different situations. T-Mac is older, injury prone, and just isnt the same. Even in his prime, he would always get hurt when it was time to get to the playoffs. When him and Yao Ming both got hurt the same year, it was time to make some changes. So I dont blame them for cutting team back. He PROVED that he is not the same player anymore.
Kevin Williams doesn't deserve to be cut in my opinion. Yes his production has slipped. But he was at his best along side Pat Williams. Maybe if he was along side a guy like Sharrif Floyd, his production might increase

What do you think Letroy Guion is? Who up to this point in his career has been as effective if not moreso than Gilbert Brown and was picked two rounds later, is that not 'building a potential guy?' You're looking far too much into my T Mac comment, I am suggesting that both guys were on the rosters of Championship-playing teams, but neither contributed much to the cause.
I don't understand how you're so opposed to the idea of Williams and Floyd rotating. Just because you really like both of them, they should both be starters?

Good Lord... WHAT does Gilbert Brown have to do with the 2013 Vikings? Wait, I can actually answer that: nothing! So, why are you talking about him?

Who the heck is talking about cutting Kevin Williams? You're making less and less sense with each post in this thread.

I already addressed why Gilbert Brown was the subject of this thread. I suggest you re-read the post.
As for Kevin Williams. Being cut, what I meant was not getting a contract extension for next year so basically the team is kicking him to the curve next year. Which I think he doesn't deserve.

Dude, Kevin Williams will probably retire next season. Of his own choosing. He is getting long in the tooth and we need a replacement for him. He has had a great career. It's hardly the team kicking him to the curb.
There is plenty of time for the powers that be to make adjustments to their schemes. Maybe they are planning to use them together but do not want to tip their hand. Do you want them to reveal the defensive gameplan so you can forecast the win/loss record in JUNE? You seem worried as if it's the 4th preseason game or something. We haven't even hit camp yet.

Oh, I read it and understood it. My question was rhetorical because Gilbert Brown has absolutely nothing to do with the 2013 Vikings, their current defensive tackle situation or the absence of Lombardi trophies in the their trophy case. He's just a player you inexplicably chose to haul out of the past as "evidence that the Vikings, in previous history, refuse to play a good player when they see one", which is an absolutely ridiculous statement since there is more than ample evidence to the contrary.

We don't know if he'll get an extension, just like we don't know what Floyd's role will ultimately be this year.

I think this thread is now ruined, especially with Lesnar being "discussed".
A successful coach needs a patient wife, loyal dog, and great quarterback - and not necessarily in that order.

This guy was drafted back in 1993, in the 3rd round by the Minnesota Vikings. But he got cut before the final roster was even in play. Can you believe that, a 3rd round pick getting cut? So he got picked up by Green Bay and played 125 games (103 starts,) recording 292 tackles (186 solo,) and seven sacks. He even won a super bowl with the Packers. If you are wondering what does this have to do with the Kevin Willams and Sharrif Floyd situation, this is just mere evidence that the Vikings, in previous history, refuse to play a good player when they see one.

You are talking about past management and decision making Blah Blah Blah. Well I will remind you of a couple of decisions made by previous Viking management that turned out to be a solid pick ups along the defensive line, how about PAT WILLIAMS and J. Allen How did those work out for the Vikings
Maybe it is just because it is the "off season" but OMG

Do not mistake KINDNESS for WEAKNESS!

It's all part of working to get better in the off season. You wouldn't want Ponder waiting til week one before working on his accuracy, the same goes for fan griping and arm chair quarterbacking.
Come week 1 I want to see elite griping and complaining even if they win by 20. "Just whine baby".....

There are some all pro whiners out there that is for sure

The professional whiners and the mindless homers polishing their craft during the offseason... excellent.
