Take it from a diehard FSU fan, if Dilfer thought Ponder was one of those guys who sparkled in shorts, then EJ is a straight diamond. His stats look great as a whole, I believe he is the ACC's all-time leader in completion percentage, I could not stand him. He finished 25-6 as a starter, and those six losses were all the biggest games with the most implications. If you look at his stats in those games, he took a big Sanchez on the field, over and over. He suffers from phantom pressure heebie-jeebies and cannot throw fades or deep fades, at all. Every time he unloaded the ball deep, I'd start thinking about the next snap, because there was simply no point in wondering wether or not he'd complete it.

I'm beginning to think the same thing. In fact, right now I might be tempted to move CB up a bit as well.

What's frustrating is that it's easy to make a case for all the positions being BPA important. Seriously, if any one from the positions mentioned falls to the Vikings and they're better than the other players on the board, I say grab him.

Ewww no thanks on Landry Jones! Gf is from oklahoma so naturally she's a sooner's fan and that means I end up watching some of their games and I gotta say, nothing Jones does is impressive at all. He's been there for like 5 years so he's got all the records but don't let that fool you.

The Philadelphia Eagles downfall these past two season should have taught everybody what happens when you attack the free agency. Great teams build their players through the draft. You rarely hear teams like the Steelers, Patriots, and Ravens in the free agency. The FA is when you need one or two players to add depth or feel a major hole in the team. You don't use the FA to fill all the holes in your team. You'll end up wasting cap space doing that.

Absolutely. Build through the draft and supplement through the free agency.

I must say that I'm thoroughly impressed by Manuel, he appears to have all the tools but I'd hate to draft him and heap the pressure on Ponder, as I don't believe he's on the hot seat.

However, QB is obviously the most vital position, some tough decisions to make. I think ultimately we'll focus on strengthening elsewhere (LB,WR) and maybe take a late round flier at a QB.

I'm thinking Manuel is going to sneak up into the top of the 2nd round right now, and one of the QB-needy teams like Arizona, Buffalo, or Miami might sit back in the 1st and try to land him there. The way things are shaping up there might be a mini-run on QBs in that top half of the 2nd round as the QB-needy take advantage of the conventional wisdom that this is a "weak" QB class.

As far as the Vikings go, with QB not being a "need" per se since the addition of Cassel I don't think there is much chance of the Vikes spending a pick on a QB before the 5th round. If Spielman were to do it I think the most likely scenario would be he trades back from pick #25 into the top 10 picks of the 2nd round and maybe lands another early 4th, and then when that pick comes up he has a QB on his board that is just heads-and-tails above any other prospect that is there.

I'd say the above is about as likely as another meteor strike in Russia this week, though. I just don't see any QBs in this draft, including Manuel, that would merit a grade far above where they are likely to be taken.

At this point, I would be fine with a WR pick as #23 and then all the rest of our picks used for the OL, DT, LB and CB positions... not necessarily in that order and of course you always have to consider BPA.

I agree w/ this. I kind of hope they take a page from the pats and draft a non-strarter from a big school (Brady from Michigan, Cassell from USC) who is under the radar and can be had late (6th or 7th rd). Quite often big schools are stacked with QB talent and a more pro-ready player didn't get the nod for the college game. I don't have anyone in mind... just like the idea; a 7th rounder is throwing the dart at any position anyway.
