Mike Jenkins - DB - Cowboys
Free agent CB Mike Jenkins is expected to depart Dallas this offseason for an opportunity to start again.
ESPN Dallas suggests Jenkins "will not land the type of deal he expects" on the open market, but he's not returning to the Cowboys. The 25th overall pick in the 2008 draft, Jenkins was a sparingly-used dime cornerback in 2012 before slot corner Orlando Scandrick's year-ending injury. Jenkins, 28 in March, made 43 starts across the 2009-2011 seasons. He started just twice in 2012.

Re: PFF Free Agency Tracker
Looks like a lot of good corners will be on the market come free agency, hope that we can snag one along with a quality receiver. If not both, at least get either one...

If you listen to the reports, the Vikes were "interested" in Donald Driver(38) before he announced retirement Thursday.80 PurplePride 84 wrote: Boldin has been one of my favorite players since his FSU days but the Vikings won't be signing anyone over that age of 28 IMO (unless it's re-signing their own players).
It's not like they would sign him to a 7 year deal or anything "if" true...

I disagree, depending on the contracts, I'd take Boldin, or even Driver over Jenkins anytime. They both bring more leadership to the position, and Boldin most certainly has a lot more to bring on the field.
And I don't think signing one veteran to play a role on the team is a change from the youth philosophy. I think people get a little carried away with the youth movement philosophy. The core of the team should be built through youth, but that doesn't mean you should write off every player over a certain age. It just depends on the role you have planned out for them and the money you have planned to invest in them. Every team needs leaders, without Winfield, Jared and KWill this year, I seriously doubt we would have been able to recover from our mid season let down.

Then a guy that is planning on retiring was trying to create a market for his talents?80 PurplePride 84 wrote: I never bought into the Driver rumors. The original source of the story was a Green Bay TV reporter. The other reports were all just spreading the word. Here's a link to the original report:
http://www.fox11online.com/dpp/sports/p ... -in-driver
It's quite possible that neither Driver, his agent or the Vikings were directly involved in the origins of this rumor. The source isn't even described as a source with the Vikings!
It was a "nothing" report, a rumor.

It doesn't say the Vikes are interested or that the Vikes have expressed interest, it says they would be interested. The Green Bay Packers may not be asking their all-time leading receiver Donald Driver back next year, but that doesn’t necessarily mean other teams aren’t interested in seeing what is left in the tank. FOX 11 has learned that the Minnesota Vikings would have an interest in the 37-year-old free agent wide receiver if he does not decide to retire.
That's basically it, although the report contains some other info about Driver. In all likelihood, this reporter went to his source, asked if the Vikes would be interested, was told that the Vikes would be open to the idea (which isn't exactly active interest) and then the story spread. This is no different than when Charlie "Shooter" Walters mentions a rumor, SI picks it up and puts it on their website and pretty soon it's on PFT, news outlets, etc. that "the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports...".The Vikings did not make head coach Leslie Frazier available for comment, but a source told FOX 11 he would be open to consider Driver if the Packers decide to pass. The team could certainly use the receiving help.

Re: PFF Free Agency Tracker
Re: Driver to Vikings. Driver wanted to have a big fancy retirement party at the team facility, unheard of. And he wanted to be able to say he turned town other interest to stay loyal to GB and retire a Packer. Viking rumor nothing more than a publicity stunt, like Dancing with the Stars. Once a good player, now merely a shell of his former self and wanting to believe otherwise.

I think if they went after any WR in the offseason it would be a player like Boldin. Whether it's the first or the second round I'm pretty confident they are going to draft a WR early in this year's draft so Boldin would be used to supplement the WR corps not fix it. He'll be 33 this year and he is a pretty solid possession receiver. He would be a significant upgrade over Michael Jenkins and I don't think he would demand a massive contract. I think Harvin, Boldin,Wright and a big body WR such as Allen/Patterson in the 1st round or Hunter/Da'Rick Rogers in the 2nd would definitely increase production out of the passing game for 2013 and help Ponder in his continued development or be a solid foundation for a new QB should Ponder fail next year.

Re: PFF Free Agency Tracker
This is just a theory, but I think the Ravens are going to jettison quite a few players this year whether they want to your not. Ray Lewis is going to retire. Reed is probably going to retire or leave. Matt Birk will likely retire. McKinnie is probably going to flake out, given his history. They are an old team overall. Boldin could go either way IMO. They might keep them since they seem to be shifting from a defensively focused club to an offensively focused organization. Then again, they might want a youth movement and will cut him to free up cap space? All conjecture at this point.

The Detroit Lions have parted ways with troubled wide receiver Titus Young.
Young, a second-round draft pick in 2011, has been disciplined multiple times in the past 12 months. Most recently, Young was told to stay away from the team facility because he intentionally lined up wrong in a Week 14 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Chris Canty - DL - Free Agent
Giants released DT Chris Canty.
Looking to get younger, the Giants have now cleared nearly $14 million in cap space by releasing Canty, Ahmad Bradshaw and Michael Boley. According to Canty, he was not offered a pay cut before being handed his walking papers. Signed to a six-year, $42 million deal in 2009, Canty was a 16-game starter in 2010 and 2011, but bookended those campaigns with injury-plagued seasons. Knee and groin woes limited him to nine games in 2012, though he still graded out as a top-20 defensive tackle in Pro Football Focus' ratings. He shouldn't hurt for one-year offers.

Evan Silva on TwitterMy top 5 NFL Free Agency sleepers: 1) DL Desmond Bryant 2) Rush LB Victor Butler 3) TE James Casey 4) CB Bradley Fletcher 5) ILB Brad Jones. Those guys will either get way more interest than anyone expects, or they will be available cheaply and turn out to be free agent steals.

Kind of a nice tool/opinion. Corner is really deep. I'd be surprised if we didn't sign someone from that group.
