Really? With who? Matt Flynn because of one game against the LIONS? Alex Smith? Fine, I can see it. Otherwise Vick is as good as or better than anyone else out there. And no one brings to the table what he does as far as being able to make plays when nothing is there or the line breaks down. Age, criminal record. I'm looking for a quarterback, not a dog sitter. And to fill in while the brain trust tries to find someone else (or more like Childress's it and has Ponder work on his game before throwing him back out there)
At this point, based on Vick's performance the last two seasons, he wouldn't even be much of an upgrade over Ponder.
His qb rating has been better than Ponder's both of the last two years. And Ponder's is getting worse. He's also averaging 600 rushing yards a season. And the only time he didn't break 100 yards was when he got hurt. He can also actually make plays. I'd trust Vick to win a game over Ponder every day of the week. And over any number of other second tier one game wonders!

Vick! Vick! Vick! Chant it with me!
Vick is a turnover machine, gets injured way too much, and even has a worse rating than ponder! Not to mention he is getting old. If you think he is going to get us any farther than ponder has, you are wrong. Oh, and did I mention he's getting old?

Exactly. There's not enough upside to justify signing Vick. His career, and his athletic ability, are in decline. He's not worth the PR hit as a backup and he's not a long term solution as a starter. He's not good enough as a short term solution that he would open up a championship window either. He hasn't been on the winning side of a playoff game since 2004, he turns the ball over too much and his passer rating, TD/INT ratio and even yards per attempt numbers this season were comparable to Ponder's.
Im really hoping we can get Alteraun Verner from the Titans to start opposite of Xavier Rhodes, I think those two would be great corners for the future. We have a lot of money to spend in free agency right now so im hoping we can snag someone good.

According to Spotrac, without the 19 free agents, the Vikings have $97.6 million in salaries committed in 2014. That leaves them somewhere in the neighborhood of $29 million in cap space to sign rookies and free agents.

They're going to need it. The Vikes are really poised on a precipice right now. They've finished last in the NFC North in 3 of the last 4 years. Their d-line, long the strength of their defense is a gigantic question mark. The rest of their defense was already a giant question mark and at best, they only have one of the QBs who will be on their roster next signed...
They need to make this offseason count in a very positive way. Between the coaching changes, and the inevitable changes to the roster that are coming, 2014 is going to be an absolutely pivotal year for the future of the team.
I like Verners play, his age, his attitude. But so will 20+ other teams. I think he is going to command a really high salary due to age and skill set. Coming off of Jared Allen and Kevin Williams contracts, we could probably afford it, but I hate putting all the money into 2-3 players, and then not having anything left to upgrade positions of glaring weakness.
Its a tough business all around though, gotta make that investment sometimes, but doing so cripples your team in other areas.

It's good to see the Vikings in the top 10 but I wonder how much of a splash Spielman will make. Doesn't seem to be his style to go after big ticket free agents. I'm hoping they re-sign Griffen, we need continuity somewhere.

I'm hoping for one "splash"/difference-making guy (Joseph, Spikes, Whitner or Verner for example). The rest will likely be lower-tier guys. Not a ton to work with when you factor in our own free agents and draft guys.

Cincinnati Bengals:
I'm told the Cincinnati Bengals may have to cut Carlos Dunlap in order to create the salary cap room necessary to sign a number of other highly considered players on their roster about to hit free agency.
