I'm with that Jeff. If Zim thinks that Mack or Barr are a better fit than Mosley, by all means. Mosley is my pick unless Rey comes in via FA. There will be many worthy CB's early 2nd. I'm not against taking one of the top guards with the 2nd pick either. With the deep draft, the Vikings should be able to get a decent "need player" just about every pick.
And I am holding out hope that Kevin Williams actually gets to retire a Viking, in a year or two.

I would be happy with Mack or Mosley. I don't think Barr would be a good fit at all. Just my opinion. Mack has been used primarily for pass rushing, but has also shown good skill in playing the Run and Coverage. Mosley has been praised for leadership, instincts in stopping the run, and being adequate in coverage, but not someone who is an edge rusher. Barr seems more like a 3-4 rushing OLB with limited skills in coverage and stopping the run. In our defense, that doesn't seem like he would be a great fit.

This is what the Vikings have sorely missed for many years. This has been the best chance to score a winner. I do not think he would be a reach at #8, he is a need and highly rated. No need to risk trading back, just take him. :smilevike:

Between our 3 picks in rnds 2-3, I wonder if we don't end up taking 2 CB's.

I've all but changed my mind over to Mosely myself. It depends how the first 4-7 picks play out, of course. But I'm for taking Mosely at #8. I have a feeling Zimmer is also angling long term here. We have Cassel, so he may not feel the automatic pressure to try and get that franchise QB right away with the first pick.

Yes, and a CB with the 2nd or if Yankey is there for the Guard spot. That may be a long term answer there as well. Vikings have a chance to hit home runs at need positions for their first four picks. Please don't screw it up this year of all years.

With the Munnerlyn signing, we're in decent position to grab the best players left on the board at need positions. I think it's a safe bet that QB & LB are being eyed as our two highest priorities in the first two rounds by this staff.

It's becoming very clear to me that if one of Teddy Bridgewater, Johnny Manziel, or Blake Bortles is there we Definitely need to pull the trigger. With the coaching/scheme improvements, the maturation of younger players, and the recent free agent signings we will be winning too many games to be in position to get a franchise QB for the next few years. I know franchise QB's can be had in the later rounds but the highest success rates are in the first round and particularly closer to the top of the draft. I would make them sit the bench for a period to refine their game and get accustom to the speed of the NFL and the looks that they'll be seeing. but if 1 of these 3 falls to us and we don't take him i think we'll be regretting it in the future when were stuck with an Andy Dalton type game managing QB.

I agree to an extent but also, there has been a lot of chatter that QBs could fall. I think outside of QB, our biggest hole is LB. You could argue outside CB as well. I think our choices are narrowed down to CJ Mosely, Justin Gilbert, or a QB at #8 (or later if we trade down). The good thing is, LB, QB, and CB are all fairly deep in this years class.

2nd-4th round LB's could consist of: Borland, Shazier, Skov, Jones, Smith, Smallwood
2nd-4th round CB's could consist of: Verrett, Fuller, Roby, Jean-Baptiste, McGill, Desir
2nd-4th round QB's could consist of: Carr, Mettenberger, Garappolo, McCarron, Murray, Boyd, Fales (and possibly 1 or more of the Top 3 if they fall)

So as you can see, there is plenty of depth. I highly doubt Spielman stays put where he is in rounds 1-4 but there are quality players all over the board in the early rounds that would fill immediate needs for us. I really like how we addressed free agency.

The more I look into the Joseph signing, the more I love it because if you think about it, outside of Nix, the nose tackle class is fairly weak outside of maybe McCullers. NT doesn't have near the depth that the positions above do. It was a very smart signing on Spielman's part.

As bad as I'd want Teddy Bridgewater if he fell to 8, my heart is telling me that we will be better off with a LB. If our defense is as good as it seems to be getting, then we don't need a top tier QB to succeed. We can still do good with a 2nd-3rd round QB. That's just my opinion though.

If Teddy some how made it to the eighth pick then that would be a bonus. I could see some team wanting to move up to get him and giving up next year's first round pick and this years 1st round pick.

About a week ago, Mark Schlereth mmade a comment about having Bridgewater in their studio last year, and he couldn't help but think to himself........this is a QB? He's 185 lbs!

Don't know what he weighs this year, but

I'm still betting that we take 1-2 corners and a Safety in the draft. Since there is a lot of value and depth at that position this year, many times those guys will be the BPA. Also, Munnerlyn is mostly considered to be a slot safety (and a good one at that) and with our history of injuries to the secondary setting us back because of lack of depth, I coudln't imagine us not taking at least 1 CB in the draft. Like I said before, Im still betting on 2. And maybe a Safety.

The way I see the 2014 draft for the Vikes unfolding:

-ASSUMING in first 7 picks: 1 DE, easily 3 QB's, 1 WR, 1 OL, with the remaining selection more than likely Mack (but outside chance at another OT sneaks in top 7)...

-That leaves Vikes at 8 with prime choice at 1 of 4 (potentially 1 of 5) remaining D players who fills their position need: Barr, Mosley, Gilbert, Dennard...

-Vikes can play it safe and select their player of choice between those 4 (or 5) players, but if they view them all fairly equal...

-Trade down 3-6 slots and gamble 1 of the 4 (potentially 5) will be on the board when they select...

-If they trade down, Vikes would hold 5-6 picks (depending on what they get in trade-down-package) in first 3 rounds...

-What they do with those picks (i.e. stay pat or trade up for player(s) of choice falling late in 1st/early in second) would be fun to watch.

I think top of the 2nd is a good spot to find a quality guard. Specifically Yankey or Sua-Filo. I think one or maybe both will slide out of the 1st.
