Maybe... or he might put up those numbers next week.

Right now, he's an average-to-below-average NFL starter. It's still very early in his career so he could get much better. Basically, we have to wait, watch and hope he develops into a much better QB. Meanwhile, he's probably going to be an erratic young QB for at least a while and we have to hope his intangibles (composure, grasp of the game, etc.) ultimately help him become special because physically, he's not a special player by NFL QB standards.

That's my take anyway.

Nailed it. Precisely my take as well.

Average qb play will help you squeak out 16-10 wins at home with the oppositions best player hurt. Average is not going to beat GB, or even CHI. If the Vikings want to take that next step, everyone, including Bridgewater needs to play better.

By the way, mistake free QB play is above average imo.

It is if they're productive enough to make it above average.

Is anyone watching the Chargers/Packers game? Holly cow. 500 yards for Rivers?!

Yeah but he missed a wide open pass on 2nd down at the end there so he is probably not a franchise QB. Rodgers overthrew two guys in the endzone on their last drive so he is probably questionable, too.

/sarcasm

But it is good to note that these all-pros don't make ALL the throws all the time, either, despite what ESPN says.

Yea Rivers did a great job throwing into coverage today, just wow.

Well, not with a horrible offensive line. But if they can save $$$ on the average QB, use that $$ to beef up the OLine and actually have protection in the passing game and a credible running game....with a great defense....an average QB can win a super bowl.

But yes, with a horrid OLine and an average QB, this leads to squeaking out 16-10 wins at home against bad teams.

I know this really isn't the point of your post, which I agree with, but Rodgers throw to Starks went right threw his hands.

IrishViking wrote:Since when is Average bad? Mistake free average QB play and a stout defense can and has won dozens of superbowls. I hate when people throw average around like its an insult "He looked about as good as the best 32 quarterbacks in the world when mixed and divided out"

Also despite pedestrian numbers he is extending the heck out of drives on a regular basis. Yes he is making mistakes but I have seen QBs learn to not throw into bad coverage situations. I have seen far far fewer learn to handle must convert 3rd downs with poise. Its mind bogging to me for people to cherry pick 5-6 suspect passes and shrug off every other completions as "Expected" or "its the minimum" no it isnt! Thats why QBs get drafted every year. That's why they make the most money of any position, because a good number of QB (even some currently playing) wouldn't be able or expected to make some of those throws teddy made today. This is the first time in a long time I see us line up in a 3rd down passing situation and me not assume we wont make it. Teddy is converting quite a few of them. Today even, Teddy converted 2 third downs past the sticks and on one he threw short hoping for YAC and immediately everyone bemoaned the fact he wont throw past the sticks.

We wont ever ever have Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Peak Drew Brees, etc. And they are not needed to win superbowls.
I agree with your post except for the last point. The last 12 years would say those caliber QB's are exactly what's needed. And the trajectory of the NFL is just that as well. The 1 game elimination format in the NFL will weed out any team without at least a top 10 QB, in my opinion.

After he didn't throw to the wide open running back on 2nd down I was screaming at Rivers like the Vikings were playing.

I have to disagree with this. The Seahawks made the last two Super Bowls. By no means would I classify Wilson as a top 10 quarterback. Top 15 maybe. But I would not put him in the top 10.
