It's also why a defender has to be smart enough not to take an opposing QB (especially a star QB), twist him around and slam him to the ground, thus taking away momentum from his team. The refs didn't just arbitrarily step in to take momentum away from the Vikings. They called a penalty. I understand that we can all reasonably disagree about that but for everyone complaining about the call: seriously consider what your reaction would be if a Saints defender had done that to Bridgewater and the refs had chosen not to throw a flag. I suspect we'd see the same level of outrage we're seeing in this thread now only it would because a penalty wasn't called.

I'm a lot more upset about the Vikings only scoring 9 points in this game than I am about a penalty that didn't put points on the board for either team.

Agreed. Lots of calls missed in that game.

As a point of reference though ... that game was in Jan 2010. Starting with the 2011 season the definitions for player safety rules such as rough-the-passer were substantially expanded.

I'm pretty sure that the high-low tackle was already in the rule book in 2009-2010... still no call.

Yes, which is why the NFL came out and said it was a missed call and gave the vikings a worthless apology

Are you talking about the sack Captain should have gotten, that had late help from Blaton, which made the sack look worse then it was? Where was the whistle? The flag? How about the flag on Brees for hitting a player in retaliation for getting sacked hard? If the refs are going to call it like that, blow the damn whistle. So next time Captain has a QB in his grasp, he doesn't have to let him go for fear of an un-sportsmen like penalty. Now we cant even tackle a QB hard, and the QB can shove players around without a penalty.

Sorry to say this, but the Viking QB's do not get the same treatment as the elite QB's. Nor do they get the benefit of the doubt if they go after whoever they fell just sacked them. Same things the refs did (or didn't do) when we played the Saints before.

Same reason the Packer's secondary got away with murder every play when the rest of the NFL got flagged for PI or Illegal Contact.

I know it's tough to look at a loss in a positive way, but I remember not that long ago when the Vikes went into New Orleans and absolutely got humiliated. As that game went on, Drew Brees did whatever he wanted. The game got worse and worse. Today, the Vikes picked themselves up off the mat after falling behind by 13 and made a game of it -- in one of the toughest places to play in the entire NFL. The defense really picked it up and held the Saints in check. Yes, the offense is in disarray. We've got a rookie QB, our best player may never play for us again, our Pro Bowl tight end is hurt, and our right guard is down. But there was progress made.

I like the adjustments that seem to be made as the game goes along, and at halftime. But seeing the defense come out and playing so horrible, on the road, just reminded me of Fraizer and Childress. And Zimmer not checking the mic's? For both road games? And the damage was already done. I did like to see the poise on Teddy. I pray to god he doesn't get hurt and we see he who I wont name. I think that would be about the only thing that would make me stop watching the Vikings.

Lol, I it's not Zimmer's job to 'check the mics'. Come on man.

I at least doubt that was a game changing penalty, we couldn't put the ball in the endzone.

.....Interesting statistic. That's with a secondary that has Josh Robinson and Robert Blanton in it. I really like what I saw with this defense today for the most part

Well yeah. Zimmer made adjustments and they flustered Brees. We all know Frazier wouldn't have done that. I mean it pretty much shows since he just had 56 points put on him this week. This defense is already much improved since last season
