Negate pre-snap reads? Hardly. Just because I'm suggesting they add another type of stat wouldn't change what plays are called. I didn't say change the current system, I would just like to see an additional 'actual yards passing' stat. I really don't see that being a bad thing.TSonn wrote: That system would completely negate pre-snap QB reads like what Teddy did on that last play. According to Ben Goessling, the play called for a longer pass but Teddy saw the pressure and knew if he could get the pass in the hands of a guy who could get past the first line of defense that we'd have a great chance at a huge play - so he audibled to the bubble screen.
Teddy could have kept the original play and threw the ball further in the air downfield which would net him more yards in your suggested system, but he made the right call by audibling to a shorter throw (in terms of the LOS) against that defense.

Re: 117.6
No, of course not. As I said earlier, I would just like to see another stat that shows actual yards passed. Still keep the current stats, just add a new one. I'm not sure where I ever suggested they replace the current stats which is what people are assuming I am suggesting.808vikingsfan wrote: If you don't give the YAC to the QB, do you also take away the TDs if it wasn't caught in the endzone?

According to the Strib, the coaches are working Teddy on his mechanics and in the weight room, which is giving him a sharper pass and more arm strength.frosted wrote: Agreed. I think it's also fair to say his passes have more...ooompf, shall we say, on them as compared to earlier in the season. That coupled with quicker decision making, and I think we're seeing a quarterbacks improving game to game (for the most part).
I think it's really showing.

Re: 117.6
This pretty much says it all:
"Thirteen other quarterbacks were drafted in the 2014 NFL draft. They've combined for two victories this season. . .one for Oakland's Derek Carr and one for Jacksonville's Blake Bortles.
In his last six starts, Bridgewater has completed 62.4% of his passes for right around 220 yards/game. More importantly, he's thrown nine touchdown passes to just three interceptions. . .and two of those interceptions came on Hail Mary passes (one at the end of the Chicago game, and one at the end of the first half against the Jets). He's been doing all of this with a makeshift. . .to put it politely. . .offensive line, a largely underwhelming running game (anchored for most of the year by another rookie, Jerick McKinnon), and an inconsistent receiving corps."

Not that it changes the point of the article (must have been written before yesterday's games) Carr got his 2nd victory yesterday so that makes it 3 victories for the other rookie qbs.mosscarter wrote:This pretty much says it all:

The 56-yard touchdown to Johnson was a prime example.losperros wrote: According to the Strib, the coaches are working Teddy on his mechanics and in the weight room, which is giving him a sharper pass and more arm strength.

I went back and looked carefully. The ball traveled about 45 yards in the air, and it was an impressive throw. Just enough arc to get there, but plenty of zip to hit Johnson beautifully in stride. There was no safety help, which is why it went for six, but even if there had been safety help, the ball would likely have been completed because it had something on it. I also liked how Teddy stepped up in the pocket on that play, set his feet, and fired.
He had some other excellent throws, as well. One that springs to mind is the completion in the second half along the sideline, where Jennings made the great toe-tapping catch. Really well-thrown ball on the deep out -- a throw I didn't think he could make earlier in the year. There's definitely a lot of improvement going on. Can't wait to see what this kid does with his first full offseason!

Go ahead. I dare you.
Underestimate this man.

One was a Pick 6 on the first offensive throw for the Jets, the other was in garbage time trying for a miracle TD to close out the second.TSonn wrote: Yeah that was annoying. "These two young QBs have nearly identical numbers. Each have 1 TD and 1 INT." When Teddy really had 2 TDs and an INT that was absolutely pointless.

Couldn't agree more Kapp!! You can tell Teddy is really starting to get in a rhythm as the season goes on and he is getting more experience under his belt. It's definitely showing a very promising future. I don't think he is anywhere close to his ceiling yet which is a very good sign given how he has been playing as of late. If we can get a legitimate LG and legitimate #1 (even though I like what I've seen from Johnson lately), this offense could end up being very good in the near future. It's even more encouraging to see the jump our defense has made as well.J. Kapp 11 wrote: The 56-yard touchdown to Johnson was a prime example.

Also, is it me, or has our offensive line been protecting a lot better recently?? Even though Harris isn't very good, he held up pretty well last game. A lot of this could also have to do with Teddy getting the ball out of his hands quicker.

Re: 117.6
Another stat. TB has the 2nd longest TD pass out of all QB's so far with the 87 yard TD pass to Wright. Only Rottenburger has one longer, 94 yards. Haha.

Re: 117.6
I have to say I am impressed with TB's play over the past couple weeks. I am also impressed that the Vikings had not one but two WR's with over 100 yds and a TD. Could it be that the QB is starting to trust and build rapport with his fellow teammates? Please sir, may I have some more?
Let's see this Sunday if he has progressed even a little more vs. a top tier defense that he has seen once.

Don't hate on my Buckeyes. Some of the best Vikings went to Ohio State.
Including now, HOF WR #80 Cris Carter
Re: 117.6
Nice to see the touch on the downfield throws he was missing earlier in the year. Unlike some other recent QBs he's showing improvement through his rookie year, forget his first two or three seasons as starter, he's already improving!
