The article I read stated that it was a two month rehab and recovery. So depending on when he goes under the knife, he should be good to go far before camp. Not sure on the chance of it being an issue beyond the surgery.Purple Jesus wrote:How's the recovery on this type of surgery? Will he be back in time for camp? Does it have any lingering issues or possibilities of the injury returning/worsening?

Adrian Peterson - RB - Vikings
Adrian Peterson's groin surgery will take place this morning. A.D.'s surgery is considered more minor than his 2013 sports hernia operation, and there is no worry about his training camp status.

@Profootballdoc on TwitterSince repeat groin surgery @AdrianPeterson is adductor muscle RELEASE, doesn't require true HEALING. Only recovery from soreness (2 months).

This must be an echo chamber because the statement "AD is not a good receiving back" has been repeated so often it has actually taken on "fact" status for some fans.
Danny Woodhead (5 seasons) 176 rec, 1674 yds, 9.5 avg, 10 TDs, Long 50
LeSean McCoy (5 seasons) 272 rec, 2127 yds, 7.8 avg, 10 TDs, Long 70
Matt Forte (6 seasons) 341 rec, 2919 yds, 8.6 avg, 12 TDs, Long 89
Jamaal Charles (6 seasons) 222 rec, 1975 yds, 8.9 avg, 14 TDs, Long 75
Adrian Peterson (7 seasons) 206 rec, 1697 yds, 8.2 avg, 5 TDs, Long 82
When compared to four of the best receiving backs in teh league, he stacks up fairly well, especially when you consider how often he was OFF the field on 3rd downs, when many receiving backs make their mark.
The difference, of course, is that Adrian Peterson has 10,115 yards rushing and 86 rushing TDs. The other 4 backs on this list have 104 rushing TDs... combined! Yes, he is not an all-star receiving back, he definitely could stand to improve his blocking, but he is an all-world running back and it is ludicrous to insist that he sucks receiving out of the backfield.

In reading these posts there appears to be a more receptive response on this board to the POSSIBILITY of trading AP then there was just 6 weeks ago when it was previously suggested. I have not gone back to the prior thread to read it but I know there were a number of people who thought the mear suggestion was ubsurd and voiced there disdain at the idea quite loudly.
Im curious why the change of heart. Is it due to the change in the HC and OC? Is it the fact that he is injured again or something else? Why all of a sudden is something that was once unthinkable now something to consider?

Well, if it makes you feel any better I think it's still implausible and stupid.radar55 wrote:In reading these posts there appears to be a more receptive response on this board to the POSSIBILITY of trading AP then there was just 6 weeks ago when it was previously suggested. But it won't happen this season (if it ever does). I don't believe the remaining salary after this season is guaranteed, so I suppose the conversation will heat up again next year. Like Christmas without Santa, it's not an offseason without an annual "ERMAGHERD Trade Adrian Peterson We Need The Draft Picks!!!" thread.

Ditto. I certainly haven't had a change of heart on the matter.dead_poet wrote:Well, if it makes you feel any better I think it's still implausible and stupid.![]()
It's become an annual sign of the season, like questions about the Vikings switching to a 3-4 defense. But it won't happen this season (if it ever does). Re: Adrian Peterson Could Need Groin Surgery
Looks like I might get my wish.
Adrian Peterson - RB - Vikings
New Vikings OC Norv Turner said he wants to get Adrian Peterson in space more often.
Turner sees two ways to accomplish this goal. First, by improving the downfield passing game so Peterson won't see the most eight-man boxes in the league. And second, by utilizing him as a receiver. Turner has a history of this going back to Emmitt Smith and LaDainian Tomlinson, each of whom caught 50+ passes while playing for Norv. Peterson projects to threaten his career-high of 43 catches in 2014. Turner's presence can only help.

Under Turner, the Vikings' plan for Peterson could look slightly different than how the 2012 NFL MVP has been used in the past. He talked about wanting to get Peterson the ball in space more often, which could sound like sweet poetry to Vikings fans who have wondered why Peterson hasn't been used as a receiving threat more over the years. The best season of Peterson's career as a receiver, not surprisingly, came in 2009, when he caught 43 passes for 436 yards from Brett Favre, who used running backs as receivers with great success during his career.

Re: Adrian Peterson Could Need Groin Surgery
I am fairly agnostic about AP as a receiver. The offense being called/mangled the last few years was pitiful. The same guys who judged it a great idea to make Cordarelle Patterson sit on the bench much of last season wee responsible for being creative in the use of the games best RB. Norv Turner may find countless new ways to wreak havoc on the NFL with AP......
Conversely, AP really is a pretty piss-poor pass blocker...I can't blame coaches for that.
