It's a big thing for him. I thought he did great today. Being a Bengals fan, I am used to his voice, though it was strange it hear it without the four letter words. lol. I am now rooting for the Vikings as well because of Zimmer. He will improve this team just like he improved the Bengals defense. No doubt about it.

While I am very confident that Zimmer will make a huge impact on the defense over the next year or two, the QB that he and Turner decide on will really determine his success and ultimate fate here. Cannot have a major miss on that and survive...its that simple....

Anytime you listen to a press conference or a locker room interview, you pretty much are forced to suffer through his questions. There comes a time for everyone when they should be done.
Sandusky stuff aside, it had been time for Paterno to step down for a few years before it finally happened. Everyone's time eventually runs out.

As a Jazz fan, I respect the heck out of Stockton, doesn't mean I think he should still be playing.

They should be done when they want to be done, if that's an option for them. In his case, it appears to be an option and I say good for him. If he wants to keep working and the Strib is willing to let him do it, what's wrong with that? I understand that he's old and I get that his best years in his field are behind him. So what? The man shouldn't be fired or forced to retire after a 60+ year career in Minnesota sports journalism simply because some people don't like suffering through a few seconds of his voice during press conferences! Some people find their work fulfilling. If he's one of them, he's blessed to still be able to do what he loves.

Anyway, after reading that forced prepared statement, Zimmer handled himself just fine. I cannot wait for this coaching staff to get in place. I have a feeling this offseason may be one of the best in recent memory.

Possibly. If so, great. I appreciate your take on this matter, Jim. I don't like our society's "disposable" slant on life. Especially with how we marginalize the elderly in so, so many ways. It isn't healthy. Sid's fun to poke fun at though, in a non-mean spirited way. I enjoy his stuff mostly because his take is so very different from any of the younger generation and he's got his own style. His "Grumpy old man" approach cracks me up.

Nothing's wrong with it. Like I said, I'm not from there. He seems way over the hill and SHOULD be done(IMO, obviously). If the trib feels his benefits outweigh the negatives, then keep on keeping on. I don't know how well he's liked there, from some of the things I've read/observed, it seems like he's way past being a professional writer/reporter and is almost like some mascot now.

Sid has earned the right to continue his column as long as the Star Tribune wants to publish it.

I thought Zimmers interview was ok. But then I hate our HC's interviews. I hated Tice's, I hated Childress's and I despised Fraizer's. They rarely say anything. I like wins. that's it. And I like it when a coach will say the entire Oline did a great job, when someone like AD had 200 yards. Things like that. I hate how this game has gotten to be all about individuals and calf roping crap.

How did MZ not get a HC job already? Maybe not the greatest orator but cut and dry and to the point. What's not to like? Refreshing actually. Someone who is confident in themselves and will make the players accountable on and off the field and confident in their play. The Vikings are better as a team already and I am looking forward to the Mike Zimmer era.
Is there anyone thinks that the Vikings made a mistake in hiring MZ? I haven't heard or read any negatives, so I truly hope that this will work out for all parties.

Same here and I certainly wouldn't call myself a fan. I don't read hi column regularly. I just think it's awesome that he's still doing what he loves and I hope I'll be lucky enough to be able to do likewise if/when I'm his age.

I hear you. I'm not from Minnesota either but I do get the feeling Sid is considered somewhat of an institution there. I just think it's a good thing he can keep on keepin' on, as you put it.

What i do like about Sid is how he has little tidbits (Sidbits?) about local players and where they are now.

The only thing Sid ever had going for him was his longevity. He is a trove of Minnesota sports history, but he's no Jim Klobuchar. Sid was the gossip columnist, while Klobuchar was the artist. Jim had the trust of the movers and shakers, while Sid trafficked in rumour and innuendo.
