No, it didn't cost the Ravens the game but it sure could have with only 45 seconds left in the game. There were blown calls on both sides, but more of them went against the Vikes.

I just went and watched, and I see two players put their hands on a Baltimore's player's back. Those are not blocks, not even shoves. If either was called, it'd have made for even worse officiated game

I think this is correct. I don't believe they are allowed to challenge a "penalty" as the basis of the challenge. I worded it poorly before.

We probably all should have seen this coming...

Missed calls happen all the time, to/for every team. However, when blatant favoritism happens, or a shafting of some teams, do you really think someone on the losing end goes all out and voices his complaints, gives obvious evidence, or do they accept it as business as usual? From what I remember the Seahawks got screwed repeatedly in the Super Bowl, worst ever in a big game. Well, besides the Vikes vs. Saints.

Addendum: I guess it's like any industry, nobody truly challenges the big guys at the very top. What can truly be done to make a difference? Apologies from the NFL, if they even acknowledge, matter not.

Greenway's PI was clearly a penalty. Whether it was holding, illegal contact, or PI is debatable, but it was definitely a penalty.

The one on the interception was definitely more questionable, it looked like there was very little contact, but it's a judgment call and referees are going to make mistakes.

However, the Gerhart fumble was inexcusable. It wasn't even close. They had a chance to review it and they completely botched it. Still, it was the first quarter so I'm having a hard time blaming the entire game on the officials.

All in all, this wasn't nearly as bad as the 2009 NFC championship game or the, I want to say it was 2004, game at Lambeau, which were the two games that I can remember legitimately thinking it was "rigged".
Edit: It was 2002. The league admitted to 9 bad calls in the game, 8 of which were in the fourth quarter.

Only thing that really ticks me off is the Gerhart "fumble".

Also: FORMER VP OF OFFICIATING, CARL JOHNSON, IS HIS LINE JUDGE!!! WTF!?

I can't remember when it was, but what about that free first down the Ravens got, I think they needed about 8 yards or so and were stopped at least a yard short, yet they still got it

Frazier said that was second time this season that league called him unsolicited to discuss officiating. He declined to say which game

It is HILARIOUS that anyone thinks that a Vikings Loss needs to be rigged.....REALLY?!?!?.....We need absolutely no help in losing. Wilf had it all preordained by investing a in a mentally challenged QB and an underqualified Head Coach who is still wearing training pants. Grow up and stop with the conspiracy theories. Its embarassing.......

All fans simply opining...I think the sentiment is the rig was not to hurt the Vikes, but to help the Ravens make the playoffs. Obvious replays of bad calls stir the sentiment.

...wisdom ?

I don't think it was rigged...but if it was, it wasn't for a Vikings' loss, it was for just as you said - a Ravens' win to help push them into playoffs.

I agree. Common Man called it the Loser's Lament. Yes we should have won but the blame does not fall entirely or even largely on the refs...they did make some poor calls but that goes both ways.

Ok, the first one against the Raven's # 51 was weak at best, but the second one on #32 was a definite push in the back and prevented the defender from getting to Patterson (IMO) and could very easily have been called. I don't think anyone would have a right to complain if it would have been called.

No, I don't think that is correct. I have seen games this year once when a coach challenged that they didn't call a penalty for 12 men on the field and another one where it was just the opposite, where they called a penalty for 12 men and the coach challenged that there weren't 12 men on the field. You can't just challenge a play for no reason - you have to tell the ref why you are challenging a play, and just saying that you are challenging the play in general is not a good enough reason.
