So we dump Ponder and go for Ponder II. Ok.TheFoxInDetox wrote: They both completed about 300 passes, their td/int ratios were very close, their average pass distance was almost the same, QBR almost the same, Passer rating almost the same. If not for Adrian's epic season their passing yards and completion % would likely have been much closer as well.
I firmly believe that Freeman is the better of two QBs, I was just pointing out that they are kind of similar players.
Should we trade for Freeman?

and that's the only way I'd take him....and I'm still drafting a guy.mondry wrote:They could (and might) actually just cut freeman and then he'd be on waivers for signing.
Re: Should we trade for Freeman?
Another thing that makes going after Freeman completley dream sequence stuff is that to do so would mean the powers that be would have to admit they blew it on Ponder. They would be admitting that he's a total failure and will never be the QB of the Vikings again. Because just as is the case in Tampa now for Freeman, once you're benched for performance and the young guy comes in, you're never getting back in there with that team. Making a trade for or signing another QB would mean the end for Ponder in Minnesota, and I don't see Spielman giving up on him this season.
Face it; unless he gets hurt and can't play, we will likely have to suffer Ponder for the rest of this season. They will surely look to draft a QB but it's Ponder this year as long as he's healthy.
And someboy posted this partly in jest earlier but I believe it to be true. If Ponder misses the Steelers game with the rib owie, I fully believe Frazier will put him right back in there as soon as he's healthy. No matter how well Cassell does.

Yep. Such a spineless worm move by the front office and coaches to pull this garbage. And someboy posted this partly in jest earlier but I believe it to be true. Re: Should we trade for Freeman?
What NFL team is reporting the Wednesday before a game a rib injury to their starting QB? So either our team is incompetent, or trying to pull a fast one. No QB is going to come out a few days after an injury and say "Yeah, I'm hurt, it's my ribs". No team is going to let him. But he does just that?acousticrock wrote: Wait. Has this already happened?
Isn't it a little premature to start name-calling before A) Ponder doesn't play and B) IF Ponder doesn't play, to put him back in when healthy?
There's like two or three levels of speculation going on here and then comments assuming the speculations will come true.
They try to hide injuries, not announce them to the world.....

All injuries have to be reported to the NFL so many days before game time. So, Ponders ribs would be out there sooner or late. Should have been later.

Wasn't Freeman drafted before they lowered the rookie wage scale? I bet his salery is higher, he probably resigned after his breakout year.TheFoxInDetox wrote:I wouldn't mind if they traded Ponder for him straight up as long as his deal was only for the balance of this season and at or less than Ponders contract. Freeman looks terrible this year but he has actually been very good at points in his career, unlike Ponder who has been below average to terrible.
Best case scenario is that Freeman turns out to be better than Ponder and he can be our 2nd stringer next year. Worst case scenario Freeman stinks up the joint and we dump him in the off season just like we are going to do with Ponder.

Right. He would have been/was reported as limited in practice reports, so there would've been/are questionsRaptorman wrote:All injuries have to be reported to the NFL so many days before game time. So, Ponders ribs would be out there sooner or late. Should have been later.

Trade for Freeman? No. We are going to need all the picks we have this year. Now should he become a free agent this offseason I would not mind signing him - as long as we are drafting a QB high in the draft as well.

Freemans benched for Glennon, if they would straight up trade for Ponder sure and a 6th or higher sure, it not no thanks.

Tampa Bay is NOT going to trade for Ponder!! Why would they? He's no better than Freeman. Probably not as good actually. Even though Freeman has been really bad lately, he at least has at times in his career looked like an actual NFL QB. Ponder has yet to do that.allday1991 wrote:Freemans benched for Glennon, if they would straight up trade for Ponder sure and a 6th or higher sure, it not no thanks.
It's like swapping dog poo for cat poo. Sure, it's different poo but it still stinks just as bad.

Re: Should we trade for Freeman?
Lol I agree why would they do that trade, however do they really think in his last year they will get a better player than him for him? I see a late, late draft pick at best.majorm wrote: Tampa Bay is NOT going to trade for Ponder!! Why would they? He's no better than Freeman. Probably not as good actually. They do both suck but I don't think Freeman stinks the joint up less, sure it might of been a fluke or w/e people want to call it but Ponder will never put up 4000 yards and 27tds, so I choose the pile that is slight less stinker. Do I think it saves the season if we do? no.

Proof of Ponder's accuracy beyond 4 yards
Aaaaaand he sucks beyond 10.On passes that are in the air for 10 yards or less, Christian Ponder has been accurate on 81% of his passes.
https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2 ... -week-3-2/On passes that are in the air for 11 or more, he has only been accurate on 43.8% of his passes.
