That was a really dirty hit and I hope that guy at least gets a hefty fine for it.

I just HAVE to say this... stop ragging on Gary Anderson for 1998. The man had the first perfect regular season by a kicker. Ever. He was legendarily accurate. And you're really going to have nightmares about the guy for missing a kick that he should never have ever been in the position to have to make, had it not been for the appalling coaching in the second half and the disappearance of the most prolific offense in NFL history to that point? Gary Anderson was one of the best things about that magical year, and it bugs me when fans focus on the only kick he failed to make.

Okay, rant off. Thank you for your patience. We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

I always thought Robert Smith was the maim reason you guys lost that game, although I understand how a lot of people might disagree with that sentiment. But man, two picks right through the hands is a lot worse then 1 missed kick.

Robert Griffith was the DB, Smith was the RB. Your point is valid. Peeps, especially sports fans, like conveniant scapegoats and such. Like the way some people suggest the 09 loss to the Saints was solely on Brett Favre. you see what i did there?

Yep - In both cases (98 and 09) the Vikes were ahead or tied (respectively) when the game was allegedly 'lost' by the mentioned miscues...

There's plenty of blame to go around for the 98 NFC championship loss... but a slice of it still belongs to Gary F. Anderson. He needed to make that kick.

That was more or less the point of it too.

It would be pretty dismal if that were indeed the case..... But it's cool to have some fun with our frustration....it builds character, and there are some seriously witty people on this board to boot.

You mean to tell me there won't be a point in the season where you coat yourself in purple vasoline and mimic a slug?~

Da Knee gets the biggest slice (How appropos) IMHO. Sure, Anderson would have 'iced it' at that point, but no matter how you 'slice it' we were still up by a touchdown when he missed the kick...

So, half of the year I live on a 1600 acre forest property doing different forest management things. The place is a public park and non-profit thingy run and owned by a 73 yr old man with me as the main caretaker. If there is heavy work to do my spine gets bent. There is always work to do.

The last coupla days we've been removing big firs and pines next to older oaks as part of an old growth restoration program we've started. Big trees, heavy work.

The old man is a huge sports fan, like myself. He is a Duck alum as well....so we decide to treat ourselves to the Ducks home opener today against Nicholls State.

The Ducks were only a 59 pt favorite and Nicholls has Dalton Hilliard Jr at RB and Bobby Hebert's son at QB.

So we get our sore azzes up early and make the drive to Eugene, climb the 83 rows up to our seats and commence to spectating the whuppin.

Turns out the Ducks set the school record for offense, 770 odd yards, and have 3 guys rush for over 100 yds(another first).

There were alot of big plays.

But, unfortunately, there was this heavy set couple directly in front of us who felt compelled for some mysterious reason to stand up and flap their chubby arms right during the climax of each big play, effectively ruining every chance we had to see play happen in it's entirety.

Right as D'Anthony Thomas makes a brilliant move and breaks for the enzone, all I see is a triple X green Ducks jersey with a yellow 21 (LaMichael James) and pasty white arms flailing out of it. The arms where getting pinker by the minute as it was a cloudless 85 degree day.

I tried burning holes in the back of this guys neck with pyrokinesis......but i suck at pyrokinesis.

The score was 35 to 3 halfway through the second qtr and these two carried on the whole game. In between plays the guy had sewing machine legs....the whole game!

I don't think i'll ever go to another game. It's just a giant pain in the a$$ AFIAC. Sooooo much nicer to watch it on TV, in a cushy chair.

Had a great time with the Old Man though~

I've come to the same conclusion, Breeze.

BTW, I saw Lagunitas Lil sumpin sumpin' yesterday and thought of our discussion on enjoying games from the comfort of home w/ good food and great beer. It was astronomically expensive, so I'll wait for it to go on sale. Good to know my neighborhood store stocks it though.

@Texas Vike

Watch out for those beers.... they pack a wallop! They run a little over $8 for 6 here.

Good to know; they were over $10 a sixer here. At some point they'll be on sale and I'll give 'em a go.

I got something!

So, I have Vikings stuff all over my car. I feel like I get funny looks sometimes. In general I feel people think something like, "Vikings? What the heck?" And then they look and realize that I'm not a guy and probably think, "Okay...that just got a little weirder." lol. But now I don't think they think of the Vikings or me at all...they probably just think, "THE BROWNS!?!?! THE FREAKING BROWNS?!?!? REALLY!?!?"

Embarrassing.
