LOL! Maybe I should be in sales.
Eli wrote:That's how I understand it. The Will LB tends to be a little more free to move in space and is more often blitzed as well. I think that if Greenway is moved it will be because they feel Bishop is better in coverage. But that would run counter to most things I've read about Bishop, who is said to have poor coverage skills and isn't very fast.
Plus, according to Ben Goessling of the PP, the Vikes like his blitzing skills.

My guess is Florio just has it wrong.

While we're on the subject...

Upon further review, Bishop at WLB makes more sense
Coach Leslie Frazier announced earlier that Bishop would start out at the weak-side linebacker position. It came as somewhat of a surprise to many who assumed Bishop, who played inside in the Packers' 3-4, was brought in to play middle linebacker while Erin Henderson shifts back to his weak-side job. Henderson will stay in the middle in the base defense and in the nickel. At least for now.

"Because [Bishop] is coming in so late, what we're trying to do is get him up to speed on how we do things from a defensive standpoint," Frazier said. "We think the best way of getting that done is starting him on the outside."

Frazier also said that could change if the Vikings discover that outside linebacker is a bad fit for Bishop or if "we had trouble inside."
Frazier isn't anticipating outside linebacker giving Bishop a problem.

"One of the things I liked is he's a very good blitzer," Frazier said. "He has some good athletic ability. That's what we look for in our outside backers. Guys who have the ability to win one-on-one with halfbacks and fullbacks but yet they're good in coverage as well and can take on lead blockers. He's shown he can do that."

I think the Bishop thing has to be tempered by the real possibility of him not being what he was. That was a serious injury...on par with an Achilles rupture IMO. I'm glad we have the PennSt. guys here cause I won't be sold on Bishop until the season starts and he's shown that he's truly healed.
Hoping for the best.....

Michael Mauti not on the PUP? Awesome. Hopefully he will still get the chance to beat out Erin Henderson for the Mike spot.

I doubt moving to the weakside would be a huge transition for Greenway. In terms of coverage, I think the responsibilities are similar and if I'm not mistaken, he's spent some time at that position for the Vikes in the past. If I remember correctly, the biggest differences between the will and sam (weakside and strongside, for anyone who isn't familiar with those terms) LBs in the Vikes scheme are in gap responsibility and who covers the TE. Depending on what coverage the defense is running, the sam LB may be responsible for covering the TE (who is, naturally, on the strong side). I think the will LB has less gap responsibility and his primary job on running plays is to make tackles. The gaps are supposed to get plugged and the flow of the play is supposed to be directed toward the will LB, who then makes the tackle.

That's only speaking generally, of course, and I'm no expert so I may not be right on target with all of that.
Thanks for the clarification and yes, it was from a PFT article that I read the bit about Bishop going to the strong side. I trust the coaches' assessments about whether a player is suited for the specific position vs. my obvious lack of knowledge. It just brought up a question and hopefully the addition will make a stronger LB corps in general. Optimistically, with some of the younger players showing promise for the futre :D

And everyone was worrying for no reason. Ever since the new CBA, less players, especially rookies have been holding out.

Rhodes on practicing vs CP(84): "He gets one or two steps on you, there's no catching him. I'll tell you that." #Vikings

So my understanding is we only have one player on the PUP list?

(FWIW, other ex Vikings starting training camp on the pup list. Mckinnie and Harvin)

Notice how Rhodes and Patterson are both smiling but Floyd isn't. He's looking at the contract and thinking, "damn, I thought I was gonna get drafted a lot earlier and get a lot more". Hopefully that motivates him to work his #### off.

From what we know yes. According to Frazier, Greg Childs is the only player on the PUP list. I had high hopes for Childs but I don't think he will make the team this year. I don't know the severity of his injury but he had damn near over a year to get better. Mauti had 3 knee injuries and still able to make it to camp without any setbacks.

Floyd is a soft spoken person. He doesn't show too much emotion, he's all about performing. He will start eventually, and he may end up starting next to Kevin Williams, you never know. Neither Patterson or Rhodes are starting yet either, people are just assuming that they are starting. I think the coaches want all players to work for their spot, not just give it to them because they're first round draft picks. Most depth chart changes don't become official until the end of the preseason after all the cuts are made.

Damn near over a year for a double patella tear are you kidding me? ACL's are tough patella injuries may be the worst knee injuries and rarely anyone is the same after so saying one year for one knee he should be ready is ridiculous let alone two. Not everyone has super human Adrian Peterson healing powers.

Yes he will start day 1. What im saying is that he just want coming into training camp starting just because he's a first rounder. And it's not AJ opposite of Cook right now. Robison is the CURRENT starter outside. So far Robison only moves to the slot when they are in the nickel. But in a base 4-3, Robison has been starting, that will change though once the season starts.
