Has anyone seen the NFL Network series "The Missing Rings". It's basically a talking head/documentary/re-cap of our 1998 season with Carter, Randle, and Green as the talking heads. They showed all the hate mail Denny would get and some things were downright racist death threats. People saying he could never be like a good white coach like Bud Grant and that he should be lynched.
Guy even signed it

....what?!?!
But, Denny Green is wrong for taking that personally?

Nope. He shouldn't have an issue with that
at all. How stupid of him.

(Sarcasm about other posts on this thread)
I have seen part of that show, but I guess I missed that part. I'm glad I did.
Either way, I still like Green. I was too young to dislike him for all of the reasons that people shared previously.
Too bad we couldn't get it done in '98. It just wasn't meant to be. It never is for the Vikings...life goes on.

Oh man, is it pain week here at the Vikings message board lol? What do I remember about 2000? I remember that awesome start (7-0) and (11-2) with our new QB Culpepper. But like almost all Viking seasons, we choked down the stretch. At 11-2 we had a 2 game lead for home field advantage (Giants were next best at 9-4), but "the greatest show on turf" (the Rams) exposed our weak pass defense in week 15 and we got torched in the final 3 games and fell to 11-5. We blew a 2 game lead in 3 weeks and lost home field to the 12-4 Giants. All we had to do was beat the Rams or Packers down the stretch and history might have been much different. We got back on track vs the Saints in the divisional round, but then the NFCCG train wreck happened. If it's any consolation, I don't believe we would have beat the Ravens in the bowl. That was one of the best defenses ever and we probably would've made Dilfer look like a pro bowler.
I just cringe at the statistical disparity of the Giants game.
First Downs ... 31-9
Total Offense ... 518-114
Rushing ... 138-54
Passing ... 380-60
Time of Poss ... 42:22 to 17:38
But for some reason the most painful part of that game was how the Giants nearly ate the entire 4th quarter on a 19 play 13 minute drive to finish the game. On that drive Joe Montgomery carried the ball 14 times for 42 yards with his longest run only being 8 yards. Talk about the most painful grind it out drive imaginable. On that drive they converted 5 3rd downs and a 4th. The game was well in hand I just didn't want to see us get shutout. I was hoping for a garbage TD so we could avoid the most embarrassing loss in team history. But as it stands, we've now made the likes of Chris Chandler and Kerry Collins look like awesome championship QB's.

The rumor at the time was the Giants knew our snap count, or were intercepting our play calls over the radio. The rumor also included the Eagles who supposedly complained about the same thing when they lost to the Giants the week before in the divisional round. I believe it turned out to be bogus rumor started by a Toronto news paper. Although when you go back and watch the game, as fast as the Giants D-line was getting into the backfield, I almost believe they did know the snap count lol. I'm just glad they got killed in the bowl.

I remember the Giants were accused of O-line telegraphing. But nothing ever came of it. (i think)

Um, there's a reason (41-0) it's the forgotten championship game.
But thanks for bringing it up.

I'm pretty sure that game was a divisional round game and NOT a conference championship game, hence why it has been forgotten.

Nothing about 41-doughnut is funny. Nothing.
But, I'm pretty sure that if it
was a divisional game, it would have hurt a tad bit less. No such luck. Wishful thinking, partner.
