I Just said, Mallet. He is 6'4, 245 and has an arm, He doesnt run alot, hes a pure passer.
So would you have taken Mallet at Number 12? (or passed on Rudolph - likely not ever getting a shot at him) to take Mallett in the second round at #43. Those were our only two picks before Mallett went since Bald Clueless fired our receiver we gave up our 3rd round pick for...

Yes. I would have taken Mallet at 12 over Ponder. I wanted Locker like most. Mallet would have been there in at 45 or latter. Didnt the Pats pick him up late? Yes I would have done a little dealing like they have done in the past, but Ponder was/is too huge of a reach. and just about every expert agreed. And I wated every tape on Mallet, esp. the ESPN stuff. The kid had an accurate arm. Good footwork. I loved him.

They did. "Any veteran" was Donavan McNabb. How did that work out for us again?
There were a few more then bounce pass McNabb. He was just Fraizer friend. The Skins couldnt wait for him to leave.

Mallet has only thrown 3 passes (with 1 completion). I'll give you the fact that's probably not a very good sample to try and draw conclusions from, but Ponder statistically has a better passer rating than Mallet does now.

The point is that "any veteran" was the strategy the Vikings had already been using for the last few years. Unless the veteran's last name was Favre it was a poor strategy then, and it would be a poor strategy now IMHO. Even when the last name of our veteran was Favre, that only worked half the time...

Do realize Wade Wilson was the last QB we drafted that took us to the NFC championship game. Vikings ability to find quality QBs out of college has been poor at best.

No, he wasn't... Culpepper did it.

In all fairness to joe h, I think we'd all rather forget that game

So did Brad Johnson in a way, drafted in 9th round by the Vikes... he played four games in that magical 1988 season.

Here's the thing. Say they went with Mallet, Webb or any other veteran QB. And say that QB is not doing any better than Ponder is right now. Guess what, we would be having this same discussion with that QB's name in the title of the thread. I don't think anyone here would be happy unless the QB was putting up Rodgers like numbers. And I'm not even sure if that were the case people would be happy.
Wasn't there a thread very similar to this when they brought Favre in? Pretty sure there was. But he as any other veteran until they could draft another. Well if you not at the bottom of wins, drafting at the top cost a lot of draft picks. The draft is a crap shoot. No one knows who is going to be good in the NFL. Scouts don't, people on this board don't. I don't. Is Ponder ever going to be an elite QB, I don't know. But I will give him the chance over the season to prove it.

Although after todays game, I am ready to see what Webb could do.

this is way worse than anyone thought. are you kidding me, two games with 58 yds and 66 yds passing? and people still think he is an nfl qb. the longer we stick with him we are doomed.
