I agree. I just don't see it happening
But if Arizona can go into Foxboro and beat New England, the Vikings should be able to beat San Francisco at home!!
The Devil whispered in the Viking's ear, "There's a storm coming." The Viking replied, "I am the storm." #SKOL2018
Last night during the Denver/Atlanta game, Jon Gruden said he's sick of yardage stats when it comes to defense. According to Gruden a good defense is one that gets a 3 and out when it matters the most. They stop the other team's offense in crucial moments, get off the field, and let their own offense have a shot to score.
I think Gruden is right. The best teams rise to the occasion in clutch moments. So, is it more likely that the Vikings or Niners will do what absolutely must be done when it absolutely needs to be done?
I think at this stage the Niners are more equipped to get the job done. Actually, I think they're *way* more equipped to do it than the Vikings are.
I'm really hoping for an upset. But I have to say I expect the Niners to win by 14.

It's FAR more likely the 49ers defense will do what must be done and get off the field. I won't be surprised if they have at least 2 or 3 70+ yard scoring drives in this game.
I think we'd all like to see an upset but are realistic enough to realize it's unlikely. If it happens, it should be one of the big stories of the sports weekend because it will certainly be a surprise.

The 49ers are well coached. They got rid of Singletary and got Harbough and things started changing right away. So we pick up Singletary for our LBs (only god knows why) and we still have Fraizer, who cant make adjustment to save his life (or carrer I hope). Well coached teams take advantage of young players and teach them how to play. They dont use them as an excuse and say they fail to execute. We aernt even close to San Fran right now.

SIngletary may not have the makings of being a head coach but he was a defensive great still. He might do okay to coach in that aspect.
Alot of former great players do not make good coaches. IMHO Singletary is one of them.
As I will agree we will more than likely lose to the 49ers, I can't believe some of you. The niners are supposedly the best team in football right now. If we lose by 10 or under we should all be extremely happy with that. Whats up with some of you saying -30 and this one isnt going to be fun to watch. Either we play a good close game, or we lose like most of us expect. Its the Vikings... don't kick your OWN team while its down.
Having said that, you dont think that Jared Allen is pissed off and ready to get some sacks? You dont think that Adrian Peterson wants to show the world that he is back and can take on the best? You dont think that Percy Harvin wants to get into the end zone now more than ever? Ponder has put up some above average numbers this year. Whether you like it or not, Frazier is fighting for his job. Bottom line, the Vikings need to win this game, and quite a few more before the season is over. They can not let this be a "wasted" home game. It doesent matter if its the 49ers or the Golden Gophers... they need a win.
Im not saying the vikes will march out there and dominate, but I wouldn't write them off just quite yet. They are a young but very talented team. They may surprise most of you negative nancys.
My Optimistic Prediction 20-17... Blair Walsh 50 yarder to win the game.
The amount of optimism in this thread is either impressive or distressing.
There is no way this Vikings offense as it currently is playing is going to move the ball against that 49er defense as it is currently playing. In fact, I cannot imagine a defense that is more perfectly suited to completely squash an offense like the Vikings have than the 49ers. Vikings like to run and throw short, and the 49ers might be the best defense in recent memory at completely snuffing exactly that sort of offense.
Defensively I'd imagine the Vikes should be able to put up a fight at home, but they're incredibly incompetent. The 49er offense isn't exactly loaded, but they are very competent. They don't make many mistakes and certainly won't shoot themselves in the foot with penalties and incompetence like the Vikings defense has done so far. I think even if the 49ers take their foot off the gas after they build an early lead they will still be able to move the ball and score on the Vikings given what we've seen so far this year with the Vikings just not being able to consistently execute on defense.
The fact that the Niners beat both Green Bay and Detroit makes me want the Vikings to win this game more than any in the first 8 weeks. It would be sooooooo much fun over on Packer forums until the Packer-Viking game.
Vikings fan since Nov. 6, 1966. Annoying Packer fans since Nov. 7, 1966

As a niner fan, the only problem with that is they would say we took you lightly. And that would be tragic. As a niner fan, I have the utmost respect for you guys and know that with percy harvin and adrian peterson that you guys are beyond capable of winning if the niners took you lightly.

Good luck this weekend.
Thanks! Let's hope it's a good injury-free game. I wish the 49ers luck too... as long as they don't beat the Vikings.
The first subject I'd like to discuss is the relative strength of the 49ers. First of all, let's go back and consider 2011. They finished 13-3, and were the second seed in the NFC. They went 5-1 in the generally-considered-weak NFC West (no other team over .500). Their signature wins were a 6 point victory at 10-6 Detroit, a 7 point victory at home against the 9-7 Giants, and a 17 point victory at home against the 12-4 Steelers (4 turnovers to zero defined that game). They lost by 10 at Baltimore (12-4), lost by 2 at Arizona (8-8), and lost by 3 at home against Dallas (8-8). They beat New Orleans by 4 at home in the playoffs, before losing by 3 to the Giants. They had three blowout wins total (more than two scores is how I define it). So while we saw them as a good to very good team, it's not clear they were elite in the way that I think of it. They were able to pull out a lot of close games, where they generally had a huge turnover advantage. It has generally not been the path to a superbowl.
So moving on to this year. They beat the Packers in Green Bay by a TD (and a 2 point conversion), and the Lions at home by a TD (and a 2 point conversion). How good are the Packers? We just don't know. They certainly look like a mediocre team, although the run of 21 straight has to be taken into account. And how good are the Lions, who were really pretty lucky to win their first game against the Rams? It certainly seems like both teams that the 49ers beat are "good", but it would not be surprising to find that both could be at the beginning of an off year. We just don't know.
So I'm just not on the bandwagon yet for SF being the best team in the league. I think they manage games well, but a strong game by a motivated team would seem to be able to beat them.
I think the Vikings will be a motivated team, but I'm afraid they just won't be strong enough. I see a nice, Pyrrhic victory here. The Vikes keep the game close, but in the end something like a missed FG leaves them down 6 points, and they need a TD at the end of the game, and they have the ball with the chance to drive for a TD, but someone drops a critical pass and SF kneels down for a win anyway. The Vikes play tougher than people expect (like last years GB game, or both Detroit games, etc.) but don't have what it takes in the end to win.
23-17 loss.
Bonus prediction: Some holding call against Jared Allen goes uncalled, and he throws his helmet and gets ejected, and we all blame the replacement refs for that and other bad calls. We admit that the Vikes were outplayed, but the momentum swing with the bad call was "just huge".
I think were going to get raped pretty hard, 49ers are easily the best team in the nfl as it appears. Alex Smith will play like Joe Montana against are D. And the vikings offense im not even going to post my thoughts against that 49ers D.
