Puker boy might be with us someday.
I want the Vikings to make a move to get that backup QB from the Jets, Mike White.
This is from his pre-draft profile on
www.walterfootball.com:
White completed 66 percent of his passes in 2017 for 4,177 yards with 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions. In 2016, he completed 67 percent of his passes for 4,363 yards with 37 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Not too bad in college at all. Mostly got knocked for subpar arm strength and "athleticism" (whatever that means), but my guess is so was Tom Brady. White was taken in the 5th. Brady in the 6th.
Granted, the Jets might realize what they've got there, but my guess is they'll try to stick with their investment in Zach Wilson and would be willing to shop White for the right price, especially if he continues to play well for them (which I fully expect he will do). This is an example of a chance to make a move that should have a reasonable cost and could pay big dividends for the Vikings, especially when compared to what is invested in Cousins.
I don't know if anyone else remembers this but back in 2018 Brock Osweiller was given the start against a very good Bears D in Miami. He proceeded to throw for 380 yards, 3 TDs, 2 ints in an OT win.
The stats looked great, the team won, but his average completion travelled just 3.4 yards in the air in that game.
Needless to say Osweiller couldn't continue that level of success throwing dinks and dunkers, teams got film on him and he never played in another game after 2018.
Fast forward to Mike White in 2021. He had 405 yards, 3 TDs, 2 Ints in a win over a defense that wasn't nearly as good as the Bears, but was still pretty good. His average completion travelled just 4 yards in the air and he did not attempt a single pass over 20 yards.
Admittedly, White did throw it downfield quite a bit while he was in the game yesterday to some decent success, but how much of that was good QB play and how much of it was Rhodes and Sendejo leaving a player wide open downfield?
