You beat me to it! Yeah, it wasn't obviously a mistype to anyone who knew that he has, in fact, run various schemes, including the 3-4.

Agree with Phillips. I wouldn't mind if we grabbed him for 2-3 seasons.

No, hes played both. I posted this in another thread and someone busted my chops. That's why I thin, if we get Zimmer, we draft a LB, and Zimmer comes with his own DE(s).

he has done both, but he prefers to run a 4-3, and if given control over it, he would opt for a 4-3. The only time in his career he ran a 3-4 was when Parcells was in Dallas and wanted him to. There is absolutely no mystery to what scheme we would be running if he is the hire.

ESPN's Adam Caplan reports the Vikings will give Bengals DC Mike Zimmer a second interview for their head-coaching vacancy early next week.
Zimmer emerged as the favorite to succeed Leslie Frazier this past week. Some unconfirmed rumors have claimed Zimmer would tab Scott Linehan to run his offense, though we'll find out for sure soon enough. Zimmer would keep Minnesota's 4-3 defense in place, perhaps using Sharrif Floyd in a Geno Atkins-type role.

I would not be horrified with Linehan as OC, or even mildly disappointed. Ok, that's not true, I am still trumpeting my desire for Scott Milanovich http://argonauts.ca/page/scott-milanovi ... -2011-1602. But this is the NFL and if you aren't in the dance already, it's tough to cut in.

Brian Billick, maybe jim fassell but seems like most teams are interested in younger coaches these days.

What's all the hate on Linehan about? Scott was a pretty good OC for the Vikes, lets not forget that Culpepper's best season was guided by Linehan. A year that also was Randy's worst season as a Vike... Not counting his last partial season under Chilly

On what makes the defense capable of holding an opponent under 200 yards: “I think it really comes just from the connection of the guys. Number one, we’re going to try and play as physical as we can. They outhit people and that’s the energy that the players bring.

Sounds like a good match for Rhodes and Smith.

The hate on Linehan is basically because he wasn't Brian Billick.

Of course, by the time Linehan became an OC, most teams in the league had rebuilt their defenses into stopping the pass due to the success the Vikings and Rams had. The Vikings were still mostly a passing team. Plus, the Vikings had notoriously bad defenses and a makeshift offensive line during those years. Aside from it being important to his scheme, it was a total no-brainer when Childress stepped in and focused on the line and defense.

I'm fairly high on Greg Roman and Mike Zimmer - for very different reasons. Roman for his history in developing young quarterbacks and scheme creativity/adaptability, Zimmer because he'd probably at least shake things up in the organization enough to give the team a fresh start. Zimmer has a very long history of being a very good defensive coordinator and would probably completely restructure the defensive scheme to better fit the talent.

My gut tells me that they'll end up being rushed into making a choice before the end of the season, though, so I'm guessing the Bronco's coordinators would be out of the picture. Wouldn't mind seeing the Vikings somehow land Adam Gase, though. He seems like the holy grail in head coaching candidates this year, even moreso than Jay Gruden was. That Broncos offensive scheme is all Adam Gase, no matter what fans think Payton Manning means to it.

I'm not super high on Jack Del Rio, despite how well he's done as the Bronco's defensive coordinator. I like the guy, liked him when he played the middle for the Vikings. He seems like he's more cut out to be a defensive coordinator rather than head coach, though. Some guys are just a lot better as coordinators. Any of those aforementioned guys could be in the same boat...but Del Rio already had a fairly extended run as a head coach and didn't really make much of an impression. Good defensive coordinator, though, like Leslie Frazier was at one time.

What exactly is Roman's experience as a QB mentor? He was QB coach in Houston while David Carr was developing, not exactly a ringing endorsement. He was an oline coach in Carolina and Baltimore, so nothing much about QBs. And finally he was in Stanford and SF, which obviously is where people are coming up with this QB developing theory. But Jim Harbaugh was in both those places with him, and considering Harbaugh's reputation as a QB developer, I wonder how much is him and how much is actually Roman?
