I understand. The Vikes definitely need to improve their defense and that fact alone makes a coach with Zimmer's successful track record as a defensive coordinator pretty appealing. Since he also has the fiery personality many people have wanted to see in a head coach, he's even more appealing. I certainly won't complain if they hire him and I'm glad he appears to be one of the finalists for the job.

actually at the last 2 games Williams was trying to do a hybrid version of the 3-4. he had allen, williams, and floyd down with robinson up and about 3 yards off the line of scrimmage. i think they would have went complete 3-4 if no changes had been made. i cou;d see zimmer bringing in wade phillips to run the defense. I like linehan or turner for oc.

The NFL Network's Ian Rapoport is reporting that the Minnesota Vikings will identify the finalists for their vacant head coaching position on Monday, with the intention of naming Leslie Frazier's replacement later this week.


Rapoport anticipates that Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, and Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles have already secured finalist positions. 

So every other team that wants one of these guys will decide on sunday and the vikes will snooze too long. Also who has been our "Rooney Rule" interview.

Ok thanks i was mistaken on who Bowles was as i had him in my mind as someone else that was not a minority. My vote is for Zimmer.

Vikings to interview Greg Roman


49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman will interview Saturday for the Minnesota Vikings head-coaching job, one day before San Francisco plays the Carolina Panthers in a divisional playoff game, league sources say.

It will be the continuation of a chaotic week for Roman.

After San Francisco beat Green Bay on Sunday, Roman interviewed in Chicago on Monday for the Penn State head coaching position, a job Vanderbilt coach James Franklin reportedly landed.

Roman then flew back to San Francisco and spent this week preparing for another head coaching interview and Carolina.

It also puts Roman in a tricky spot.

A win would help the 49ers and his credentials but might wind up hurting his candidacy as some teams do not like to wait too long to hire their head coach.

The Vikings also were interviewing 49ers defensive-line coach Jim Tomsula this weekend, sources said.

Information from ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen was used in this report.

ok my mistake, he ran it for a year or two when his boss forced it upon him.

my point stands, he's a 4-3 guy

Why Roman could be a logical fit?


Roman certainly has the wares to be conducting an extensive interview tour this year, too; he's helped the 49ers get to the NFC title game and the Super Bowl with two different quarterbacks, and has designed one of the league's most diverse offenses behind quarterback Colin Kaepernick and a power running game. The Vikings could certainly use someone with that kind of offensive know-how, especially if he's able to develop a young quarterback.
