That's the theory - that you might not only get him for a 3rd round pick, but also for a relatively low salary. The Steelers are far from finished clearing cap space, though. They might very well match a reasonable offer.

also means they might cut other guys too. seems like the FA pool expands and contracts...the colts just released a safety.

wow....according to schefter's twitter, dumerville's restructured contract was not filed in time which results in his release.
i assume that means anyone can sign him. he was willing to restructure and stay in denver...but now someone could offer him big bucks.
not that the Vikes are interested....just interesting.

The Dumervil fiasco is all over the news. I assume that the deadline they're talking about was a March 15, 4PM ET deadline that was written into the old contract saying that his $12M 2013 salary would be fully guaranteed if he was on the roster. If that's the case, I wonder if his agent was trying to pull a fast one.
Elvis Dumervil has been released by the Broncos despite reaching an agreement with the team around 1:25 p.m. Friday.
The Broncos say Dumervil's agent Marty Magid didn't get a restructured contract signed in time and the team had no choice but to release him. The team didnt' get the fax with Dumervil's signature until 2:07 p.m., seven minutes and one second after the deadline.
The Broncos had to protect themselves at 1:59 p.m. when they had not received a signed deal. Had they not released Dumervil, $12 million would have been guaranteed.
The team could still re-sign Dumervil, but there are salary cap implications. Dumervil's release gives the Broncos a huge dead money hit and limits their ability to bring him back with a new' deal.
The team and their pass-rushing defensive end had agreed on a restructured contract that reduces
his 2013 salary from $12 million, according to two NFL sources.

I don't think we have much space left either. Is there an updated number anywhere? Last I heard was 10.5M after our re-signings, but before the Cassel signing. And don't rookie deals have to figure into it as well? How are they going to fit Jennings in? What is Cassel's hit this year? What is going oooon

Our cap space looks fine I believe, even accounting for expected rookie contracts. I trust Spielman and like his strategy so far.

A guy on another forum who does a good job keeping track of the numbers said we were about 1.2 million under the cap, accounting for our draft picks before the Jennings signing. There will have to be cuts elsewhere or deals restructured.

I think Jennings makes sense. Spielman has talked about the ideal scenario at WR as combing a FA veteran and some rookie talent. I have to believe that they´ll do everything that they can to not let him leave Winter Park today without a contract.
My predictions came true. I think they´re likely done in FA, though I´d like for them to look for a CB. Love where we´re sitting for the draft now. I hope they pick a WR with one of their first 4 picks.

Now I'm back to wanting them to go after Urlacher just to completely uncut the comp in the division.

From Something Awful member NC-17;
BTW, I think there's an open spot at outside linebacker on the Vikings roster.

Dumervil could not play OLB in a 4-3.

I think we are done with major FA anyways. We either move Cole there or we draft a MIKE ready LB.

No, Dumervil has never been a 3-4 outside linebacker. He's a 3-4 defensive end. At 5'11", 260lbs, he's not the prototypical size for a 3-4 DE, so I think he'd be just as successful in a 4-3. Not that the Vikings need to be worrying about DEs right now.

Pats just released Brandon Lloyd. Not that we have much room to make a play for the alleged knucklehead.

If we hadn't already resigned Simpson he'd be a good fit. But as it is, we have our knucklehead signed.
