ugggh

What a mess.
I do not want him going to Dallas.

I also feel....if they trade him, they should try to get a player and a pick.

I'd be very tempted to force his hand too.

The only possible good news here would be, I think, a restructuring of AP's contract that reduces the incentives and increases guaranteed money. That is something I am totally on board with.

frosted wrote:I agree, DP. That's exactly what I would do. I just don't think that's Zimmer's style. If Peterson is adamant about leaving and not bought in 100%, I don't think Zim will want to keep him around.
Then as GM that would be one of the things I'd have to disagree on with my coach for the betterment of the franchise. I don't care how you slice it, selling Peterson for a 4th rounder would be hurting the Vikings. If they were, say, $10 million over the cap then this is a bit of a different conversation. But we're not. You don't sell one of the best players in the league that may be a year or two past his "prime" with several league-leading rushing abilities left for a third day selection.

Frankly, I'd love to see Zimmer give Peterson the stink eye at practice (if he's there). Let Peterson feel how much he's letting down his coach, team, city, fans, etc. He cares and I just can't see him playing hardball once the season begins, even if the situation would be a negative PR story the team (and Peterson) would like to avoid. It'd be all on him.

Now, I'm hoping this "news" that's apparently going to happen in the next couple of days will be Peterson issuing a statement that says he's looking forward to getting back to work as a Viking, leading the league in rushing, winning the Super Bowl, etc. and putting this all to bed. That's still a possibility.

I'm to the point now where I want a player in return and maybe a mid round pick. If we can't get an earlier pick(s) for him, then get a mid rounder and a good player. I would be completely fine with a 4th plus a LG/LB/CB/S. Basically similar to the McCoy trade although that trade didn't involve a pick.

I don't think AD holding out generates much sympathy from his teammates or is a danger to the team in the terms of FA reputation. He's got the biggest contract ever for a RB and just got paid for a whole season of nothing.

It would be a massive distraction and against Zimmer's preference and those are significant issues.
Otherwise, I'd support forcing him to make the choice to play.

As a fan, I wish the exact details of ADs discontent were known. I hate thinking that he's an A-hole....but it can easily look that way. The franchise has treated him very well IMO, regardless of the fans and media's attitude toward him.

That's exactly my point, Josh. I'm not being critical of anybody for reacting, just pointing out that the reactions are very personal because there's basically no substantial news whatsoever to indicate which direction this thing will eventually go...

... it's a rorschach test. What do you see? A trade? A hold out? A new deal? A bat's wings? ;)
IrishViking wrote:My gut tells me that AP doesn't have a lot of the advantages here. I would guess he doesn't have as big a leadership role after being barred for a whole year and his hold out has entirely to do with just not wanting to be there anymore. He can spin it how he would Like but I doubt the locker room will be quite as unified behind him as other ones are behind their hold outs. Honestly if he were to hold out And our option was a late forth rounder or something the amount we could fine Him, if he didn't report until after preseason would be a nice chunk of his salary.

Bottom line, AP loses too much holding out and I hope the viking brass knows that
I think we're probably a long way from the need to worry about it anyway. If this were a hand of poker, it's clear that the Vikes hold the best cards but that doesn't mean they want the distraction or fallout of a prolonged holdout/dispute with their biggest star player. Peterson probably doesn't want a holdout either and heck, for all we know, the two sides are closing in on a resolution that would keep him a Viking. There's virtually no quality info on the actual status of the situation available.

I agree. My personal feelings on the matter though are if we trade him for anything outside of an early second I will be extremely disappointed in the FO. Trust broken.

Let's also take a second and see what trade partners are out there now that some FA dust has settled.

Dallas: if Murray signs with Oakland, Dallas will be one to watch (though they do have a bit of a tricky cap situation). If Murray re-signs with Dallas (and I think he wants to if he can get the $$ he wants), they're out.

Indianapolis: Frank Gore just signed, so we can cross them off the list

Cleveland: They haven't been linked to Peterson at all, but they're desperate for playmakers without Josh Gordon. They have the cap room (and two first-round picks). I can't imagine Peterson would want to be traded there (who would?) but it's possible. It would be interesting if his choice was to stay with the Vikings or go to the wasteland that is Cleveland.

Oakland: They have a talented young guy in Murphy and just signed Helu. Reports are they're interested in Murray as well. I wouldn't put them at the top of the list but I also wouldn't count them out. They also have cap room to burn. I'd take a clean trade of Peterson for Mack, I suppose (#nothappening).

Tampa Bay: Peterson apparently likes warm weather and Frazier, but I don't know if that'd be enough to go to a team that's further away from a Super Bowl than the Vikings. Though I'm sure the prospect of pairing Peterson with Winston is interesting.

Arizona: Another team that has been linked to Peterson (in addition to CJ Spiller), leading to the idea they'd like an upgrade. I think Arians would love him to take some pressure off Palmer. They just signed, Iupati, Corey Peters and Sean Weatherspoon. Do they still have cap space? They're a team to watch.

As I have already said, I am betting that AD ends up in Dallas.

I wouldn't mind a Dallas trade as much as some apparently. If Murray Goes Dallas jumps to the "mostly likely to give us a good deal" number one spot. They came close last year and AP could almost be seen as an upgrade for a one year "all in" scenario. If Murray goes to Oakland for the payday I wouldn't be surprised to see us snag their first rounder. Especially since AP is willing to restructure for Dallas.

Hehe, then you flip that late first and the fifth, and maybe a seventh to jump up into the mid first. OR even use the 11th, 5th, 7th to jump into the top 10

Just a couple things:
1) His salary this year is not guaranteed. Sitting out won't get him paid. It doesn't mean he wouldn't do it, but it's unlikely.

2) I'm not sure that 32 year old Frank Gore removes the Colts from the equation.

3) A fourth rounder would be a huge fail for this organization, IMO.

4) My prediction is still Arizona, but I definitely don't think he's coming back anymore.

My feels have also moved towards no return. It would have happened by now IMO.(at least news that they are working to that end...the silence is deafening
)
I don't wish to see him on an NFC contender unless there is Viking value returned....screw market value for a RB, this is a unique player.

If no one will offer decent value in return, I send him packing to which ever floundering franchise offers the most. I don't care about is preferences if it gets to that point, because he alone will have put the team in a crap situation.

We do have the power due to that contract and if AP really wants a trade I feel that the Vikings are in a solid position to sit tight and wait for a time to blink and overbuy. Either by having a team AP wants giving us a high pick or by having a team not on his radar, willing to take his whole contract on and give us a decent pick.

Best case is AP stays

But I could potentially see if the Vikings are have patience and AP really does want out as much as in rumored. They get him to restructure without a guarantee of a specific trade then they can have a bidding war towards the end of the FA cycle.

Was a "crap situation" a play on words or did you mean cap situation?

@Bruise
lol

I meant only that it's a crappy deal the way this has all gone down and affected the entire fan base. All the butthurt, crying in beers and rending of purple jerseys.

Why do things have to change? ;)
