Which was even more pathetic than I thought.

Never heard a peep about the guy until AFTER the last college game had been played. And then suddenly he's flying up boards. East/West Shrine game? Ponder was the MVP of the senior bowl, we better wait and see how the tortoise does there first! FCS? Spread offense? Yeah, let's give him a couple years on the bench, that's how QBs pan out nowadays. Should give him 30 starts after that too, just to make sure.
Well Mr. Negative, first of all, you must not have followed that closely because he was mentioned quite often throughout the year. He threw for 51 TDs. Granted the competition was low but that is one of the only worries scouts have about him. He is believed to be a very "pro-ready" type QB because of the offense he runs and the attributes he has. I have watched a lot of tape on him and definitely like what I see.
Demi wrote:Happy footed, noodle armed, gimmick offense. ("experience is in a FCS spread, shotgun attack, needs to become more acclimated with under-center snaps." So did he run a pro style offense or not? Hello? Anyone? Eastern Illinois experts? Where you at?)
Happy footed and noodle armed?? And you're getting that from where?? Garappolo has a very solid arm and is fairly steady in the pocket.

Demi wrote:I bet the mock draft experts love him though! Coach him up, develop him, season him. Fix everything and he'll be the next Christian Ponder! Leading teams to the playoffs left and right after working a genius QB guru!
Be the next Christian Ponder?? What are you even basing any of your thoughts off of?? His level of competition?? That's not much of a backing. Obviously you have no clue about this guy and are throwing random clueless opinions out there. Good analysis though

Demi wrote:Are we suppose to get super excited about every QB prospect just in case we get one? Or what's the game with some people? You dare to post something doesn't agree with the latest mock draft and ooooooh. You know how many QBs the mock drafters love every year that do NOTHING in the NFL...EVER? But some posters act like they're all elite QBs waiting to happen.
Another clueless comment. This has nothing to do with what mock drafts show. Daniel Jeremiah is a former scout (8 years) and NFL analyst. My guess is, he knows a hell of a lot more than you do about Jimmy Garoppolo. Actually, you seem to know nothing at all about him. So I'm not sure why you're even trying to argue.

Garoppolo has decent measurables and I would not be upset if the Vikings drafted him as a development project, but he has played against nobody and has faced very little of the pressure that goes with being an FBS signal caller. The last guy to make a dent in the NFL with pedigree like that was Tony Romo.

Late risers are dangerous risks. Some recent examples were Blaine Gabbert, Tim Tebow, Jimmy Clausen, and Brandon Weeden.

Nix with the first pick, Jimmy with the second. That's after trading down and getting another 3rd. Then CB, guard. And Lets see what Zimmer wants in FA. Rey and Johnson maybe? He knows his LB and De better then anyone.

I would love that as well. However I just realized that Rey is a restricted FA so we would have to give up a pick to get him. I had us signing him in my mock because I thought he was unrestricted but I guess not

Quite right. I stand corrected. Hmmm... I do believe I may have to reevaluate my stance.

Could be just a ruse but if there is any truth to this, the Vikes would have to move up to take Johnny Football

I hope they do not

It would be tough to leap Cleveland with them having a higher pick and an additional 1st. I agree that even if possible, that would be a bad move. Any time you're on the same page as Cleveland management, it's time to pause and reflect.

Beg Ben could be put in that mold too. Miami OH isn't that stiff, but it may have improved some.

It's still FBS, not FCS. The things is that Flacco did not have a sudden hyped surge before the draft, so that still makes me wary of Garoppolo.

Was it that way when he was drafted 9 years ago?

I do have to say, Tebow and Clausen were certainly caught up in the hype machine during their college careers. If anything I might say they were fallers, not risers.

Good point. There are many ways to fail to choose the right one. There is no sure fire blue print.

mrc44 wrote: Wow! Demi that's strange you say happy footed. I'm pretty sure expats might during the game mike Mayock, Charles Davis, Daniel Jeremiah and Paul the play by play guy(who played as a college qb) all said that he had calm feet, great poise in the pocket, one of the quickest release they had seen, the internal clock you like to see from a qb, and makes throws anywhere on the field for the most part.

Mayock said when he saw him open up against San Diego state this year, there were two or three throws that he threw short but EVERY OTHER THROW WAS ABSOLUTELY PRECISE AND EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT TO SEE. So I find it very interesting that those are your findings after studying his game film... But I think I am going to side with the professionals on this one.
This is how I see it as well. When it comes to a Norv Turner type QB, its very very hard to overlook Garoppolo regardless of competition. If he looks solid in the senior bowl, i think he's close to being a lock for rounds 1-2. I would love to get him with our 2nd pick.

Another QB looked solid in the senior bowl and locked himself into the first round. :|

Chances are what, one QB out of this draft will be a franchise QB? One will be a solid contributor. And that's about it. Yet the mock draft experts have a half dozen to a dozen possible candidates? Everyone does this that and the other, but struggles with the other, this and that. Every year you have Mayock, Jeremiah, and the TV scouts talking up every prospect their is. Do they *ever* go against the grain and say "Hey, I don't think this guy has what it takes"? Never! Instead like lemmings they jump off the cliff for every QB there is, afraid that they might be the one that ends up being wrong.

What were these same people saying about Clausen? McCoy? Weeden? Bradford? Sanchez? Freeman? Don't fall into the trap!
