Frazier said Josh Robinson didn't get any more slot work this week as #Vikings looked at backup plans should something happen to Winfield.
Brandon Burton and A.J. Jefferson did get inside work along with Marcus Sherels, Frazier said.

Ponder is officially listed as questionable for tonight's game, which supposedly means there's a 50/50 chance he'll play. I'm guessing the odds are closer to 100% that he'll start but if his elbow injury is too problematic, I won't be surprised if we see Webb play tonight. Whoever plays, I hope they play well. :)

I will preface my statement with this: I don't think Webb is the better long term quarterback (either for the season or for the playoffs). In terms of tonight's game, he might be the better of the two just because of the unfamiliarity factor ala the Eagles game a couple of years ago. If Ponder can't play tonight, I'm not sure that is a huge setback. I agree whoever plays needs to play the "game of their life" tonight. :v): Go Vikes!

Webb could definitely be a big wrench in whatever defensive game plan GB has put together for this game.

I am SO pumped for this game...!

I'm actually a little concerned about this, Jim. It wasn't too long ago when the Vikings were a bad road team. A healthy Ponder is needed tonight, in my view. If he can't make the throws, then I agree that Webb could and probably should play.

as i was just telling the wiff, my concern is that if webb starts and wins (or comes in and wins) who starts next week?!?! i was thinking that they have to at least start ponder this week so if we do win it will be easier to push him as the started next week.

I'm concerned about it too but hopefully, it won't have a negative impact on the game.

I don't really mind them throwing in Webb every so often to throw opposing defenses for a loop, but both Webb AND Ponder can run the ball out of the backfield. Teams would probably prepare the same way for either and wouldn't be too far off. It's not like we've got Webb and Roethlisberger as a tandem. Ponder is the one who's been getting the game reps...so with a fairly young offense, putting Webb in probably would confuse our own team too. I'd rather see Ponder start if at all possible and play as much as possible in this sort of situation. One series with Webb might be fine, but not if the game's on the line. If all Ponder does are 5 yard screens to Wright and Jenkins, okay then. That's better than an untimely interception or repeated incompletions.

I see your point but Webb strikes me as a much bigger threat on the run than Ponder (which isn't meant to take anything away from Ponder). He's fast and athletic enough to possibly warrant a "spy" on the defense.

I wouldn't play Webb at all if Ponder is good to go. My point was just that we might see Webb tonight if Ponder's injury limits his play.

T.J. Conley - P - Vikings

Vikings signed P T.J. Conley.

He'll provide insurance for Chris Kluwe, who's undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus on January 31. Conley was out of the league in 2012 after coming in just 18th in net punting average for the Jets in 2011

Toby Gerhart - RB - Vikings

ESPN 1500 Twin Cities wonders if the Vikings could trade Toby Gerhart.

Gerhart is entering a contract year, and he's coming off a career-worst season. Occasionally spelling Adrian Peterson, Gerhart rushed just 50 times for 169 yards (3.4 YPC) and one touchdown. He does have value as a third-down back who excels in pass protection, though, so he could bring back a late-round pick. Ultimately, Gerhart is much more likely to stay in Minnesota.

Bah. I hope he's signed and given the opportunity to start.

Geoff Schwartz - T - Vikings

The Vikings and impending free agent G/T Geoff Schwartz are expected to "move on" from each other.

Schwartz signed a one-year deal last offseason, but lost out to Brandon Fusco for the starting right guard spot after Schwartz was sidelined for upwards of a month during the summer with a sports hernia. He missed the entire 2011 season due to hip surgery, but in 2010, Schwartz started all 16 games for the Panthers and proved to be a solid run blocker. He's looking for a starting job.

Phil Loadholt - T - Vikings

ESPN 1500 Twin Cities thinks the Vikings will "get something done" with impending free agent RT Phil Loadholt.

Beat writer Tom Pelissero says the franchise tag could be an option, as well. Loadholt and the Vikings reportedly opened extension talks back in October, but nothing has materialized to this point. Since being a second-round pick in 2009, Loadholt, at 6-foot-8 and 343 pounds, has missed just one start. He's been a mauler in the run game for Adrian Peterson, and Peterson said at the Pro Bowl that he plans to push GM Rick Spielman to re-sign the behemoth right tackle.

This team is so hard-headed and dumb sometimes it hurts. Geoff was ten times the player Fusco was all season. Yet, time after time, who was out there playing and getting demolished? Fusco. Geoff should be resigned and given the starting job. I cannot stand to stomach watching another season of Brandon Fusco get blown up by the 3 technique or the nose tackle again.
