Goodell sounds offended that Radio City could possibly have other more important events.

Re: Vikings QB of the future search list
Goodell was looking for an excuse to move it back to begin with. The crap about there being no other NYC venues is BS. If they start moving it around to different cities it will only be to make it an even bigger production.
The other event at Radio City Music Hall ended up being canceled.

They need to hold the draft here in Chicago!Jeffbleedspurple wrote:Yes! Then the NFL needs to take this business elsewhere.

I would never consider a show by the Beastie Boys as a bigger event than the NFL draft
I saw the B-boys in 93 at First Avenue. First concert on the check your head tour. It was Dyn-O-Mite!
Why do they need to "grow" the event? Good God, isn't it a big enough production as is? Enough with the pomp and circumstance… they could hold it in a corn field in Nebraska for all I care.

Fair enough. The almighty dollar reigns. They might as well hold it at Jerry World here in "North Texas," to go along with the Super Bowl, final four, etc. etc.

Yes, take it out of NY, enough with the idiot Jets fans already.

Interesting compilation of mocks, with many pointing to Bridgewater for us at #8:

I am not fully convinced that he'll make it in the NFL, but I wouldn't be sour about this pick.

A few weeks ago everyone had us picking Carr. Now it's on to Bridgwater/Bortles.

Vikings bringing Bridgewater in for visit
http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcnorth/post/_ ... -for-visit
http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcnorth/post/_ ... -for-visit
The event doesn't necessarily identify the Vikings' top 30 prospects, however. It has allowed the team to spend more time with players it wants to learn more about, but the Vikings have also used high picks on players who weren't at the event, like safety Harrison Smith in 2012. From what we've heard, the Vikings don't plan to bring Central Florida quarterback Blake Bortles, LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger or Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr to the event; they held individual meetings with all three, as well as Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron, after their respective pro days, and while they also met with Bridgewater after his pro day, their decision to opt for a second visit with him doesn't crystallize where he stands in their pecking order. They might have more they want to learn about him, and the closer we get to the draft, of course, the more teams use subterfuge to cloud their true intentions.
It is worth noting, though, that Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner didn't seem as distraught by Bridgewater's subpar pro day as some others; he told NFL.com last Month he thought Bridgewater was "pretty good" during his March 17 workout. Now, it appears, the Vikings will take one more chance to sit down with Bridgewater before the draft.

Re: Vikings QB of the future search list
Pretty depressing.
Vikings' QB drafting drought precedes Spielman
Vikings' QB drafting drought precedes Spielman
http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikin ... 58861.htmlSince Tarkenton was selected, the Vikings have taken 24 more swings at drafting quarterbacks. Based on our research of the stats at profootballreference.com, 12 of those 24 quarterbacks (yep, 50 percent) never played a regular-season game for the Vikings. And if you include Bill Cappleman (1970) and Gino Torretta (1993), who each played only one game in one season, that's 14 of 24 picks (58.3 percent) who played fewer than two regular-season GAMES for the Vikings.
Next month's draft will be the Vikings' 54th NFL draft. They've NEVER selected a quarterback in the top 10. Never. That could change with the Vikings picking eighth and -- rumor has it -- in desperate need of a young franchise QB.

Thanks for the link. The article doesn't bum me out but for me, it's summary of the Vikings history at QB illustrates why this line from it is bullsh**t:dead_poet wrote:Pretty depressing.

The NFL lockout prevented them from signing their typical stopgap big-name veteran quarterback before the draft was held. So the Vikings essentially panicked and reached for Christian Ponder at No. 12 and later complicated the mistake by signing an out-of-gas Donovan McNabb.
If I never see the word panic associated with a Vikings decision again, it will be too soon.
They took Ponder because they needed a young QB (not another aging stopgap) and because they thought he could do the job. That wasn't panic. They had a need and they thought they were addressing it with a young player who would be good. It's that simple and the reason I've never had a problem with that decision is because you need to swing to hit. As the article makes crystal clear, the Vikings have taken very few few high round swings at the QB position over the years and they've had very few upper echelon QBs (with the exception of a couple who finished their careers in MN). I don't care if they spend a first round pick on a QB every 3 years if that's what it takes to ultimately land a great one. I hope that isn't necessary but if it is, do it.
People revile Ponder for being drafted high and not living up to it and they beat Spielman up for drafting him but look at the alternatives: players like Cassel, mid-to-late round picks that have rarely amounted to anything and a seemingly endless stream of aging stopgaps who have never been able to help the team get the job done and win it all. Better to "panic", draft another Ponder and fail than to timidly avoid to take a swing at solving the problem at all.
Sorry about the rant. I just tire of all the BS that surrounds this subject.
20/20 hindsight being what it is, if Spielman selects Manziel or Bridgewater or basically any QB in the top 10 this year and they fail, in 2 or 3 years we'll be hearing about how he "panicked' and selected that player because Ponder didn't work out and the best option they had signed was Cassel.
