Again, the other options (cole, a rookie) won't have a single nfl snap. At one of, if not THE most important positions in this defense. Who has more years in the defense
than our defensive coordinator does.
Compared to a slot corner who was already cut for cap reasons, and already was going to get his playing time cut?
Guess it's the same situation though. Apples to Apples and all that. Let's not even consider the actual situations we'll just say "They're both old!"
Apple.

IMO, then, what they did makes sense and I withdraw my criticism of Spielman. You needed to resign your young RT plus you knew going into this offseason that you were going to dish Harvin (they knew it, dont kid yourselves) and would need $$$ to sign a FA WR. All that adds up to needing cap space and in that scenario, Winfield's Cap # was low hanging fruit.
Next year is going to be tumultuous. They are going to have to bring JA down to earth in terms of his cap #, plus KWill. Also resigning (if he deserves it) Ponder will become a priority.
Yeah, the straight numbers side of it leads me to believe it was never Spielman's intention or he at least wouldn't have high hopes of getting Winfield back, especially not cutting him and EXPECTING him to come back cheap just because.
JA is interesting, his cap number is huge so there's a lot of potential room to free up there. If they thought Griffen could take his place and resign Robinson to a modest deal they'd save a boat load. Then depending on if they restructure or cut K.will they could potentially save like 22 million. We'll know a little more about the future plan after the draft which I can't wait for. Imagine if the BPA happened to be a DE and he has a good rookie year, we could potentially not resign allen or robison and go with Griffen + new DE. If we get a DT that isn't going to play the NT position Kwill will likely be gone if he doesn't restructure.
That's rebuilding for you though, which I'm okay with. No more going all in for a 1-2 year window with these older players.

Dandy Dan's Car Wash! Balls that was funny.
The NFL is a highly competitive market and the marketplace is no place for loyalty. It's a dirty realm. I don't think Spielman was quite the scoundrel that Toine's camp wanted to depict him as. I liked him plenty, but it seems to me that he used the media creatively/artfully.

From Jason La Canfora:

Winfield realizes that while he can take his time making a decision, and no one is rushing him, at some point he will need to pick a team and get going with their program. Those close to him expect that decision to come this weekend.

Good job Spielman. At least we have Jefferson. Should keep the Demi-like fans happy.

####. Better draft someone or do something. I cannot stomach another season of A.J. Jefferson/Sherels.

I agree. CB becomes a front burner issue now.

Doesnt that tell you something? This jacka$$ cant even stay off weed. Think about it. To be a multi millionare, he cant stay off a supposed non addictive drug. Hes not only an idiot, he has no self control.

Although the Vikings don't currently have a starting MLB on their roster, I still can't believe it's their #1 need. There isn't a Derek Brooks or Brian Urlacher (at least it seems) in this year's draft. I think play makers on offense and defense are more of a priority than MLB is. The Vikings play against 3 above average QB's in Cutler, Rogers and Stafford. Neither team currently has a tight end that I'm too worried about. Cook is in a contract year, Robinson is coming off a season where he had his ups and downs and everything behind that is awful. On the Offensive side we picked up Greg Jennings, but he hasn't exactly been setting the league on fire the last two years and after that there's Jarius Wright, who seems to have a promising future, the retread Simpson and a bunch of nobodies. In order to keep up in this Division I think they definitely need to go CB and WR in round, maybe DT in round 2 and MLB in round 3.
