I saw that Vikings have not won in Miami since 1976 and that is their only win in Miami so it would be nice to break the losing streak in Miami and get their 2nd win in Miami, Vikings record in Miami is 1-4

I hope this is correct, that we beat anyone by 27 or 30. But Vikings seem to like building a lead and throw those leads away...

We just had the perfect setup for a blow out by 30. This cream puff D we have will never allow us to win by a wide margin. My stomach turns watching this bend over and take it 3-4 scheme. Were up 21-3 that means pull your ears back and attack the worst QB in the game. We did the complete opposite. Not this year.

This scheme is set up to allow Thompson to have a decent day for Miami and manage the game. Why? Because we dont ever challenge WRs in press. We give them a ton of space to work. Donatell will do that again come Sunday because he will be petrified of Hill and Waddle's speed.

If we were to get up and jam these WRs at the line and bring pressure and give our line a chance to get home, Thompson will have no clue what to do and will often force passes or take sacks. Instead, we're going to make it easy on Thompson, play 8 yard-off coverage and let him nickel and dime all game.

There's no reason to worry about Hill or Waddle if you dont give Thompson the time to read the field and get it deep to them. We will do the opposite of what we should. I think our offense will continue to carry the weight though and we will win this game.

Looks like it will be 83 degrees for the game. Hopefully they have some type of rotation setup for this D. With Booty back he should be able to provide some relief for PP. Last thing we need is a gassed PP getting smoked by Hill in the 4th on an easy throw it as far as you can strike. I'd also get that kid LBer in there to give some relief. Same with the DL. Looks like an all hands on deck game with the heat. With that the original 11 will probably play the whole thing with no thought of relief.

We're 4-1 so far and I'm seeing mostly negative Nellies on this thread. Vikings are going to win easy. We may even get that 27 point win this Sunday. I'm predicting 24-10.

We don't challenge. It's a give and hope for a screw up. This not getting in the WR face is stupid. Teams get up in JJ's face. That's the only chance you have. Sometimes it works and that has been proven. Other times you get burnt. Yes Thompson will look good. That stiff Fields looked unbelievable. He couldn't miss and his accuracy sucks. He's a 50% completion guy which means you shouldn't be in the league. He sucked again yesterday. Donatell is what he is. There's no Buddy Ryan attack in this guy. I'd send 6 guys after Thompson and he'll crumble. He won't know what to do but shrivel up. It's a rookie with limited skills. Attack him.

You always need to look for improvement. Zim had us at 5-0 and we wound up in 3rd place when it was over. There is no reason why we shouldn't try to get better and I think we can all agree our D needs improvement. It won't get easier for us as we move down the line. We should win this game easily. This is a perfect game for adjustments and take that into the bye for evaluation. It don't get much easier than playing a 3rd string QB.

I'm playing FF in a two QB SF league and I'm seriously contemplating picking up Thompson for this week. It's an emotional hedge: If my hunch is wrong and the Vikes' D plays well, I'll be happy. If they do what I think they'll do... at least my FF team will prosper.

To me, this is an easy test for Donatell. If he fails it, he should be fired.

It probably IS too early. He should be given some time to make improvements and adjust to the issues that are obvious even to casual fans. But at some point in the season, there needs to be signs of improvement or we aren't going to do anything in the playoffs, assuming we get there.

Also worth noting: even though we've given up some yards and points to Dalton and Fields, two QBs at the very bottom of the league, we haven't completely sucked. The bend, don't break philosophy has been good enough thus far, but these MIA WRs and their speed scare me. It's a bad matchup for our slow / old secondary and LBs and this soft scheme.

OK look, I don’t like the way the defense is playing either. It’s VERY uncomfortable to watch.

But let me ask you all … if Donatell went to a 4-3 and had the corners press and everything you’re advocating … would this defense, with these personnel, actually be any better?

You’ve got four guys — Harrison Smith, Eric Kendricks, Jordan Hicks and Patrick Peterson — who are clearly on the decline. If PP, for example, tries to press Tyreek Hill and doesn’t get him jammed, what do you think is going to happen? You want to have Danielle Hunter back in a 3-point stance? Not going to happen in a 3-4 … Hunter’s skill set is not that of a 3-4 DE, whose job is to occupy blockers so that others can make tackles.

I don’t know that this defense would be any better in a 4-3 than a 3-4. The talent and athleticism just isn’t there.

What I’d like to see is a) some way to generate pressure, and b) being more multiple. In other words, mix up the front. Maybe 3-4 base and 4 DLinemen on passing downs, with Hunter and Wonnum (12.7% pressure rate) on the ends, and Z. Smith and maybe Tomlinson rushing from the inside.

It seems to me that being multiple might actually spark more pressure.

Another thing is to use the personnel you have in ways that make sense. Last week against the Bears, I recall a 3rd-and-10 play, an obvious passing situation, where Donatell had Hunter dropping into coverage. To me, that just doesn’t make a lick of sense. Go 4-man front and 6 DBs and use the people you have to do what they do best — such as Hunter rushing the passer.

Some things can probably be fixed IF Ed Donatell will not be stubborn. But honestly guys, there’s no way to make Pat Pete or Jordan Hicks faster. There are going to be limitations with this defense.
