I'm optimistic that the defense is vastly improved and seems to have depth.
From the few glimpses I saw of Pierce and Tomlinson, they were gulping down oxygen after the few plays the first team had. That is not a good sign, especially in a 17 game season. I think this is more of Spielman's paper fantasy team versus real life team.

What does having 2 NT playing on the same line mean? Do they have the stamina to be 3 down lineman?
Do having the Vet heavy secondary have the stamina to stay out there for 17 games?

And about the the depth comment. This preseason has shown the team has no depth.
I think the defense has shown some depth. They've gotten some nice contributions at LB from Surratt and Dye, Hand has made some plays in the secondary, and the defensive line has held up well even if the 2nd teamers haven't gotten a lot of pressure.

Speaking of the DL, I think it is extremely deep and balanced. The starters are solid with the possible exception of the DE position opposite Hunter, but they've got some nice depth pieces now with Griffen at DE and Richardson pushing from the inside on passing downs. I've liked what I've seen from Hercules as well.

So I guess the depth on defense is in the eye of the beholder.

Offense, on the other hand, I'd have to agree with you. They don't seem to have much depth at any of the skill positions and the offensive line remains a question mark. Ironic in some ways that the offense was the unit that was productive last year while the defense struggled, and now with major changes on the defensive side and relatively few on the offensive side it appears the offense is what we have to worry the most about heading into this season.
