Love the pick, though I was leaning a bit to Reisner. Would be a killer draft if we were somehow able to land him as well but that's a pipe dream.
Taylor reportedly has a knee issue, which is why he's been falling.
I really don't want Klein anywhere near the starting lineup. Maybe we can snag one of Jenkins, Davis McCoy, Deiter, Froholdt, Samia

Yes I'm well aware of his size. Doesnt mean he cant drive people into the ground. He's showed it on tapeCharVike wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2019 12:15 pmDid you even look at his size. Grim from the hogs was 6 3 290 and that was almost 40 years ago. That's what I mean by dominating the LOS. Drive the guy right through the 2nd level. I have posted Ford won't be picked. He's too big for our scheme. He will bang your head but doesn't have the movement. But I'm not ripping the Bradbury pick. He was the top rated center in the draft.Pondering Her Percy wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2019 9:54 am
Bradbury is a road graders. He drives people out of the way and gets to the 2nd level in the run game

Yeah, I know what you're saying when it comes to the dominant rushing OLs over the years, and it definitely is a big asset to be able to just starting pushing smaller DLs around late in games to drain clock, but I wonder if the modern NFL game is just too athletic for that strategy to consistently work anymore. I mean, look at a defender like Khalil Mack. He's a LB and not all that heavy, but he comes at the ball with such force and speed that he's really hard for blockers to lock on to, much less neutralize. In fact, it seems the bigger they are, the easier it is for Mack to get them leaning one way and then use their momentum against them to shed and attack. And while Mack is a unique talent, he's sort of typical for the type of defensive front 7 exterior player who is there to just blow the OL up regardless of run or pass. Big, super strong defensive tackles are still valuable, but most teams are looking for guys who can disrupt the line of scrimmage and still make plays against the run.CharVike wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2019 10:56 amI'm not arguing against the pick because everything I have read it was a great pick and the best player at that position. It also filled a major need. I just like bigger players. I tend to lean more for the size power guys. But that's not our scheme.VikingLord wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2019 10:13 am
Do you like OL that can neutralize their 1st assignment, then get to the second level and take out another defender? Because that is the type of OL that Bradbury has *consistently* been in college.
How he'll fare against some of the bigger and stronger interior defenders in the NFL is a good question, but it's hard to argue against the pick based on his college tape.
I guess for me, it's about effectiveness more than anything else. Can the player make the plays he needs to make in the scheme and against the defensive talent he's facing? Size is really secondary when it comes to that. A big guy who lacks the movement skills and recognition skills to make the play isn't worth nearly as much as a smaller guy who has those skills and makes the play. I think this is one reason guys like Bradbury and Lindstrom went before guys like Ford and Little.

Honestly, that is what stood out about Bradbury. He is a very effective, even punishing, blocker.Pondering Her Percy wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2019 12:51 pmYes I'm well aware of his size. Doesnt mean he cant drive people into the ground. He's showed it on tapeCharVike wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2019 12:15 pm

But what I *really* liked in the tape I watched is how aware he is. He held blocks only as long as he needed to hold them to take the player he was blocking effectively out of the play before he released that block and looked for another. That is a very rare skill for any OL player to have, much less be able to execute so consistently.

He has but standing up to NFL players is a bit different. I love the pick but his only semi knock is power. He is a relentless finisher, however.Pondering Her Percy wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2019 12:51 pmYes I'm well aware of his size. Doesnt mean he cant drive people into the ground. He's also 24. Not the best when you want a 10-12-year starter but good when you want him to contribute immediately without needing to bulk up too much more.

Wow didn’t realize he was 24!!??
That means he’s a little closer to his “ceiling” than a typical pick. But agreed should help his transition to NFL

SI really, really likes this pick
https://www.si.com/nfl/2019/04/25/nfl-d ... lysis-news18. MINNESOTA VIKINGS: C GARRETT BRADBURY
Mike Zimmer wants to run the ball and last year’s fired offensive coordinator, John DeFilippo, felt they couldn’t because of shoddy guards. Those guards, Mike Remmers and Tom Compton, are gone. But their replacements, Danny Isidora and Josh Kline, are not much better. Bradbury can take over one of their spots or play his college position at center, moving Pat Elflein to guard. However it shakes out, this is case of player and need meeting together perfectly. New offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski wants to employ an outside-zone scheme to fit Kirk Cousins, who is at his best throwing play-action off those outside zone looks. Bradbury is viewed unequivocally as the best outside zone blocking interior lineman in this draft.

I guess I'll be the Debbie Downer of this group. It really worries me that "The Experts" have already labeled this guy as a 10 starter before he's even played 1 down in the NFL.
Knowing the history of this organization, this may be another massive disappointment like Matt Khalil. Also most of those same experts had the Vikings drafting him, just like Laquon Treadwell. Another bad sign.
Anyway, the game tapes of him on youtube. He definitely has the quick feet and movement in space everyone talks about. He also lunges a lot which NFL 1 and 3 techniques can exploit and swim over or just Ole him. An interior linemen's job is to set the depth, I see him getting bull rushed back the QB on 5 and 7 step drops a lot.
He is a Vikings now so I hope he and Gary Kubiak makes me eat crow.

You make some valid points and I don't disagree with them. But I will always lean towards the bigger man. The scheme needs to fit also.VikingLord wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2019 1:02 pmYeah, I know what you're saying when it comes to the dominant rushing OLs over the years, and it definitely is a big asset to be able to just starting pushing smaller DLs around late in games to drain clock, but I wonder if the modern NFL game is just too athletic for that strategy to consistently work anymore. You are right, that worries me too. But he's much quicker than Kalil ever was, and Kalil was good for his first few seasons. I think most of his struggles were mental and eventually he just stopped caring.StpViking wrote: ↑Sat Apr 27, 2019 12:43 pm I guess I'll be the Debbie Downer of this group.
