Best Case Scenario: Packers shame spiral and lose by 20+
Probable scenario that makes me happy:27-24 Vikings
Probable scenario that saddens me:30-20 Packers
Unlikely scenario that infuriates me: Packers by 3+ touchdowns so I hear drunken buffoons say the word "momentum" 5 million times until our Wild Card game.

My fear/nightmare: Vikes go in overconfident, somehow. Joseph gets hurt early and is ineffective. Lacy has a big day. Teddy makes a mistake or two, as all humans eventually are going to do, and gets raked over the coals. I'm asleep by 11:30 local time (game starts at 10:30 pm here) and I wake to find out that the Pack won by a score of 34-11 (late TD and 2 pointer when the game is already decided).

All the good in the season erased in a single Sunday night on national TV. And then a repeat in a week. Ten wins forgotten due to the onslaught of a HOF QB who finally gets receivers to hold on to the ball...

I'm a Vikings fan who watched the 1969, 1975, 1998, and 2009 seasons come to an excruciating end. Why expect anything different? I challenge anyone to be more realistically pessimistic.

Careful, John. You might end up being described as an older fan with a "scarred, unrealistic perspective" because of past trauma.

You described one of many possible outcomes but it's certainly "'realistically pessimistic". Over the decades, the Vikes have specialized in excruciating ends to encouraging seasons.

They could also keep winning as they have in the last two weeks and advance deep into the playoffs. Who knows? Hope springs eternal.

If a Vikes player makes a big, game-changing mistake, that will player will undoubtedly be criticized but win or lose, criticism or not, I don't think 10 wins in 15 games or any of the other good aspects of this season will quickly be lost or forgotten.

Ah yes. Another fan that has been waiting for years to win a Super Bowl. I feel your pain. But hope eternal for a victory.

My hope is that the Vikings out together their most complete game of the season. Our pass defense has been able to hold Rodgers is check in the Zimmer era, and I expect that to continue because those receivers look inept at times and the line is decimated. If Linval can play at a high level and Harrison and Barr are healthy, I feel very good about our chances defensively.

Offensively, I'm not betting against Teddy and Adrian right now. The stat in the Bridgewater thread about him having the third highest QB rating in the league in December over the past two years is encouraging (even if this game is in January, which I think is probably a useless distinction). Green Bay has a solid defense, but I still have a lot of faith in the offense with the way they've played recently.

Other than battle scars, I don't see any reason to at least believe the Vikings keep it within a score. I think Zimmer has the team ready and we win it.

I'm probably about the same as you. 1969 was a bit early for my Vikings memory but in 1976 I was 12 years old and remember well the Superbowl loss to the Raiders. It has been a roller coaster ever since, including living in Atlanta in 1998 for the NFCC loss.

I haven't been around as long as some, but I feel the pain. 1998, 41 Doughnut, and 2009. UGH!

I stand by my previous opinion on this game. If the team that played the last two game shows up we are well positioned to grind out a win. If they come in and tackle like crap again it will get ugly. I want to think they've learned their lesson by now, but they have to prove it.

Thanks for the link, Jim.

This is a good article that is well summed up by Sharif Floyd:
"I've been here three years and the Packers have been the toughest games every year," (Floyd) said. "You have to understand who their quarterback is. I'll never take him lightly. Never."

This is pretty much perfect. I've only been old enough for '98+... I hid behind a chair and cried for that one. My dad about strangled someone.

He soon adopted the phrase "there's gotta be a movie on somewhere".

Week 17 Cheat Sheet: Vikings vying for AFC North

Good write up though
Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay Packers

If Seattle (at ARI) and Green Bay both win in Week 17, Minnesota will play at Green Bay in the Wild Card Round. There have been four instances since 1994 in which the same teams squared off in Week 17 and then again in the Wild Card Round in the same stadium, with the home team winning the playoff game in each instance. Most recently (2009), there were two instances of this situation: the Cardinals hosted the Packers and the Cowboys hosted the Eagles in both the Week 17 and the Wild Card game. The last two teams to face each other in both Week 17 and the Wild Card Round (regardless of stadium) were the 2012 Packers and Vikings.

The Vikings are 1-4 against teams currently in line to make the 2015 playoffs, with a turnover differential of -4. They are 9-1 against non-playoff teams this season, with a turnover differential of +9.

Vikings have scored 35-plus points in two straight games.

Teddy Bridgewater: 65.9 comp pct, 208.8 pass YPG, 14 TD, 8 INT, 90.6 passer rating. Bridgewater is the NFL's second-highest rated passer (123.2) since Week 14. Six TD passes in the last three games combined -- 8 TD passes the first 12 games combined. Over his last three games, Bridgewater has a passer rating of 154.4 when throwing 15-plus air yard passes (best in NFL).

In their last 3 games, Teddy Bridgewater has thrown 6 TDs and 0 INTs, while Aaron Rodgers has 4 TDs and 2 INTs.

Among 36 QBs with at least 125 pass attempts under 10 air yards, Bridgewater is the only one without an INT this season -- 9 TD, 0 INT, 99.1 passer rating on passes under 10 air yards.

Adrian Peterson leads the NFL in rushing yards this season (1,418), 64 yards ahead of second place, Doug Martin. It would be Peterson's third rushing title of his career (2008, 2012). Every player with three-plus rushing titles is currently in the Hall of Fame (7 players). Peterson is also trying to become just the second player in the Super Bowl era to lead the NFL in rushing yards at age 30 or older (Curtis Martin, 2004).

All Day has seven games with 100-plus rushing yards this season (most in NFL).

Stefon Diggs: 51 receptions, 712 receiving yards, 4 TDs. Leads Vikings in receptions and receiving yards this season -- last Vikings rookie to lead team in receiving yards was Randy Moss in 1998.

The Vikings defense is allowing their fewest PPG since 1998 (18.5 in 1998). Notable ranks: 6th in PPG allowed (19.3); 8th in third down percent (36.1); 9th in pass YPG (232.3); 14th in total YPG (343.8); 18th in rush YPG (111.5).

Packers are playing a Week 17 game with the division title on the line for the third straight season (Packers won the previous two Week 17 games).

Green Bay is 3-3 this season against teams that are currently in line to make the playoffs.

Aaron Rodgers: 60.4 comp pct, 235.3 YPG, 30 TD, 7 INT, 93.7 passer rating. On pace for first sub-100 passer rating in a season since 2008 (Rodgers' first season as starter). Rodgers has posted a passer rating below 100.0 in nine straight games -- longest such streak of career.

Aaron Rodgers is having the worst season of his career. Over the prior seven seasons, Rodgers led the league in yards per attempt and passer rating. This season he is 31st in yards per attempt and 13th in passer rating.

Since Week 4, Rodgers has been sacked 38 times (most in NFL). The Vikings' defense has 32 sacks since Week 4 (T-7th most in NFL). Rodgers has been hit 91 times this season (most in season in his career); has been hit 62 times since Week 9 (most in NFL).

Over his last three games, Rodgers has a passer rating of 44.9 when throwing 15-plus air yard passes (4th-lowest in NFL since Week 14).

Eddie Lacy: 174 carries, 724 rush yards, 3 TD (4.2 yards/carry) -- 100-plus rushing yards in three of last six games.

Since Week 4, the Packers have had only one wide receiver gain 100-plus yards in a game (James Jones, Week 11 at MIN).

Richard Rodgers has three receptions, 12 receiving yards, 1 TD in the last three games combined since catching the 61-yard Hail Mary to win the game at DET.

Packers notable defensive ranks: 10th in PPG allowed (20.2); 12th in rush YPG (116.9); 19th in total YPG (353.7); 20th in pass YPG (236.7).

Julius Peppers: Leads team with 9.5 sacks -- 15 QB hits.

Clay Matthews: 63 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 18 QB hits (leads team), 11 tackles for loss (leads team) -- 1.0 sack in last 10 games combined.

Matchup to watch: Vikings DBs vs. Packers WRs

If we can win a division we don't even play in, I would be beyond impressed and ready to do some damage in the playoffs. It would be a magical season!

Winning the AFC North would be nothing to scoff at, but I won't really be impressed until they can wrap up the NL Central.
