Mauti's situation isn't quite the same a Greg Child's, but only time will tell how far removed it is. If he wins the job, play him. If he blows another knee, then his career is pretty much over. But he's seen the field, he's looked pretty damned good and no worse for having had three knee operations. The Vikings definitely were cautious with him last year, but there's no reason to continue in that vein. That may sound a bit cold, but that's just how it works.
