I know what you mean. It's complete with the bitterness over the "breakup" with the ex-girl/boyfriend.

Yeah, it's genuinely scary how quickly it can all go to hell for an NFL head coach. What I'm wondering at the moment is how long the Vikings will give him to turn things around? I figure he should get a solid three years. Anything less and the Vikings either have much worse problems higher up the management chain or else they made a really, really bad choice.
I certainly hope they give him 3 years ... I agree, it would have to be a pretty epic fail if they get rid of him in year 1 or 2.

My God, Sid Hartman sounds like he is just about dead. It was so hard for him to get his words out...
It was a good press conference. I am sooooo excited now!!!

I don't live in Minnesota so I don't know the whole deal, but can't whoever he works for make him retire or something? Is he popular there?

With Sid...I don't know. The Strib would probably never make him retire. He isn't exactly popular among the younger generations, but he still seems to have some pull. Though he is senile. I saw him at the State Fair this summer. Wow he looks and sounds rough.

From what I can tell, he's seen as a dinosaur and a bit of a joke among his peers at the Strib. I don't know how he's maintained his job so long. It is not because of competence. He is very well connected, it seems. so that may be his trump card. Or maybe he has potentially crushing info on the owner.

If anything, today served as an excellent precursor to what Zimmer's future interviews will look like. I cannot wait to see his interviews during this coming season.
That question about Zimmer's wife was terrible. What was the reporter's aim other than to try rile Mike up?
Anyway, after reading that forced prepared statement, Zimmer handled himself just fine. I cannot wait for this coaching staff to get in place. I have a feeling this offseason may be one of the best in recent memory.

Well the oldest coach to win a SB was 63, so he has to work fast. But I'm one of the people who think we are closer to being in a SB than most others. We've been wasting talent for years, and if we start getting the most out of it (which seems to be the claim that people make of Zim) then it won't take 7 years. I predict an excellent first year and we make the playoffs. Its that second year I don't know about.

Hartman is 91-92 years old and has a writer (obviously). My buddy has season tickets right behind the press area and he always would leave at half time. His takes on the Sunday night "Sports Show" are just awful and head scratching. He is a legend in MPLS but yeah, I don't know how many people love him. Barreiro was joking on Twitter during last Vikings game and said "Wouldn't be a dome finale without Hartman spilling his drink. It's only 2nd quarter".

3 wouldn't be much better, especially if they ask Zimmer and his staff to develop another rookie QB. If the Vikings really believe in their coaching choice here, Zimmer should get a 4 year deal and unless things go very poorly and the team has 3 consecutive sub-.500 years or something,, he should get that entire time.

Why should he be "made" to retire if he doesn't want to retire?

Maybe they just respect his over 60 year contribution to Minnesota sports reporting. I imagine he's built a substantial readership over those decades.

Because he's terrible and it's somewhat nicer than firing him?

He's on with Dan Barraro now, can probably podcast the interview in a bit.

He's a bit of a doofus, Jim. Like you, only 10 years older.
