I honestly don't think they should go by positional need since on the defense they need all of a DT, CB and LB.
Best player available on the defensive side of the ball is what I would do. Get the best talent that will fill some sort of void and take it from there.
I fully agree on the QB though. 6-10 range is no man's land for a franchise guy. Roll with Cassel next year. I can't stress enough how just drafting a QB to draft one and hoping he turns out is extremely dangerous. With AP in his prime, they don't have any time for that.
Make a trade for Rivers of Big Ben if need be, but DO NOT show desperation in the draft.

There is zero chance that the Chargers would give up Rivers, especially with the numbers he is putting up. Big Ben wants to stay in Pittsburgh and they want him there too. That being said I would be overjoyed to get either.

Well...I was just floating names out there withouth too much thought, but we also know that one thing can be said, but true sentiments prove something different.
If not, I'm fine with Cassel. And besides the two I mentioned, there should still be options. Kirk Cousins? Are Browns holding on to Hoyer? What will the Rams do with Sam Bradford? I think all possible and viable options to have a good quarterback next year without rushing to try and find the next big thing too quickly.

^Not good at all.
I also question what kind of durability he would have in the NFL. Tarkenton wasn't getting hit by the freaks that are in the league today and we see how these constant hits hurt a guy like RGIII.

Johnny Football.
And now some places are saying Jameis Winston is the next "sure thing"? The guy is borderline mentally handicap.
My goodness what has the QB position come to.
This is why Christian FREAKIN Ponder ends up being drafted at #12 overall and given as many starts as he was.

starting to agree, feel like that kid could really make Vikings football more exciting while adding a few to the W column.
If Bortles is available I want Bortles over Manziel, but Manziel is growing on me. I am starting to like that alot of people dont like him. I like that he continues to work hard to progress as a QB. When does nfl network or espn ever talk about the Vikings? when does this team ever get credit for playing hard and beating teams that we should have been dominated by? betcha that all changes if Johnny Football comes to town.
On a negative note, I saw that Manziel's completion percentage for passes over 10 yards is in the high 40 % range. Thats not good.
The other thing is, if we draft a QB on day 2 or 3 and we do horrible this year... Guess who will most likely be coming out next year? Mariota and possibly Winston
Two main reasons I am for drafting Manziel is the probability of where the Vikes draft and where he is projected to go. That and when I say I'm for drafting Manziel, I do so saying he does have more to learn and he has more than enough capability to do so. This guy wins and does so with a krap defense at A&M.

purplekoolaid that puts us in a pretty odd spot for a qb if you ask me, that's just my opinion.

Too bad the Browns and Jags couldn't hold their leads.
That's going be a tough one for Atlanta in San Francisco. Right now it's looking like the Vikings will be drafting no worse than #8.

I'm a lot less concerned with where they draft right now than who they draft. At this point, I just hope they don;t go into the draft hell-bent on selecting a QB in the first round when there may be better value for them on defense.

Boy do I agree with you there Jim. We do need a QB but we are not in such desperation that we grab any QB that happens to be sitting there at no. 8. We need defense just as bad as a QB in my mind and if there are better defensive options available at our place in the draft than QBs then I say draft defense. We can most likely get a QB later.

I don't know about "noodle arm," but I never let the inflated numbers wow me. The Mountain West is fluff and it was obvious when they faced a mediocre Pac-12 team in USC. It is a pretty good illustration of why it's so hard to evaluate the QB position--there are so many factors to take into account and level of competition is a very important one IMO.
Another factor is the significant differences between the NFL and college game. I know that some posters like guys that come from teams that use NFL types of systems--pocket passers like Mettenberger and Murray. But then there are your Cam Newtons and Kaepernicks of the world that show that there's more than one way to skin a cat.
