8-8
We haven't really improved since last year, except we now have a real backup QB.
The D may be really really bad.
ST will bail us out, as will AD. Shame we keep rebuilding when we have the best RB ever.

It really is a shame....really looking like he'll end up as the Barry Sanders of this generation.

Yeesh! Maybe he'll be the Terrell Davis of his generation, a 2000 yard rusher who wins back-to-back Super Bowls.

I understand that you lack faith in Ponder but Peterson is still in his prime. Ponder could absolutely tank this year and the Vikes could still win a Super Bowl in the next two years. Can we at least set the "Peterson may need to be traded and his career is doomed to disappointment" talk aside until we get some idea of how this season will actually play out? Last year at this time most of us were expecting a long rebuilding year and a losing season and we ended up watching the Vikes in the playoffs in January. Maybe this year has even better surprises ahead.

I will never pick the Vikes to lose right before a game. With that said, and before the regular season starts -- I predict us going 9-7.

Yeah, the Patriots could start Mallett, cut Brady, and the Vikes could sign him...I guess.

Walter Payton got a ring...he never quit. He was better than Barry Sanders IMO. If I'm comparing AD to either of those two it's Payton. I think he's already better than Sanders~

Payton only got his ring because the 85 bears d was nearly unstoppable. Barry sanders was more of a one man team.

And the Vikings are going to need a championship defense to win a championship.....unless they turn into Kurt Warner's Rams, which is doubtful to happen while AD is here.
This Viking team has more than one hole as far as championships go and I don't see AD just quitting football. The Bears absolutely stunk for a good portion of Payton's career until they finally built a team around their defense....which, by the way, was the same model that got them to a superbowl more recently. Only the defense wasn't nearly as good and Manning carved them up

And as far as being a one man team, that's exactly what Payton was for years for the Bears. AD is a lot like him with more top end speed and less of an overall game....blocking and such.

Hoping for the best but expecting the worst, huh?

Confidence is sexy. Learn about it. JK.

The tough schedule makes it a bit harder to be confident about 10+ wins, but if we are going to build on what we did last year--we better win about that many!

To me I want to be close to winning it all,
Or win no games at all. Going 500 hurts your
team. If we would have lost one or two more
games two years ago we could have had Luck
or RG III.

Hello World...this is my initial post to the Viking forum but I have read the threads for several years.
I'm not too optimistic this year. The Cleveland game scares the bejesus out of me. For some reason, we struggle with these type of home openers (Jacksonville, Tampa Bay, Miami) against inferior teams. That and the fact I just don't believe in Ponder makes me think 6 wins tops. Hope I'm wrong.

That's true but remember, there isn't a Luck of RGIII in every draft. A record like that might also get you a Vince Young, JaMarcus Russell, David Carr, Joey Harrington etc.

I think being really bad hurts a team a lot more than going .500. In the end, it just means the team faces a steeper climb to success. The Lions have been a sub-.500 team in 11 of the past 12 seasons and it hasn't helped them build a legitimate contender over that time.

Welcome to the board (as a member who posts anyway)!

You can believe in Ponder. He's real! I've seen him in person. He's not a CGI construct created for television. :)
