He brings up some excellent points, especially about non-players competing for a spot against players.

Thanks for the links, Dave! I'm really hoping CC gets voted in today. He truly deserves it.

It's silly that Terrell Davis isn't in the HOF and that there are no punters and just one kicker. I get that it's hard to vote players at those positions in ahead of others but maybe there needs to be an exception made for punters and kickers. Perhaps, if a punter or kicker receives sufficient votes to get in, he doesn't count against the normal inductee total for that year. I can't imagine there are many punters or kickers who would receive enough votes to get in anyway but they are an important of the game and should be represented in a football Hall of Fame.

The K is interesting. Jan Stenerud was first ballot and the only one in the door. Why not Gary Anderson and Morton Andersen? Probably because modern kickers are obliterating past kicking records by the season. I think Jason Hanson should get in someday, but Blair Walsh might make his accomplishments pedestrian. Here's hoping!

Which kicker is in? Why wouldn't Gary and Morten Anderso(e)n be in?

You could argue that two kickers are in the Hall of Fame since George Blanda is a member.:) However, Blanda was a QB as well as a kicker...

Oh, ha.. I didn't see that. Of al the great kickers in the history of the game, I'm surprised it is him.

Side note, when I was little, I saw "Jan Stenerud" and thought that the Vikings used a female kicker for a time 8)

The "man" could kick. IIRC, he was kicker for Chiefs when they beat the Vikings in Super Bowl IV, just days before I was born. Late in his career in the 1980s he kicked for both the Packers and the Vikings. But his legend was born of his work in KC.

From Norway, he entered college on a skiing scholarship, per his HOF bio, see the link below.

In discussing the WRs, voter Jim Trotter of SI.com just said it's not just about the numbers. Did one player play in a dome? Did another player play all those years in Buffalo in the elements? Uh Oh.
