I agree with using picks on rookies and not free agent stop gaps. I get the feeling the Vikings agree too.Demi wrote: Exactly. And sign someone, anyone, who's available in free agency. No use wasting picks on these guys who've shown they're average...for non-injury reasons. No reason to give up picks for a stop-gap. Bad enough we have to resort to a stop-gap again because of these clowns.

have you actually watched mike wallace on a regular basis this season? he has some of the worst hands in the nfl. i'm in steeler country, so i've witnessed this by default, but everyone around here wants him gone next season. he's asking for a huge contract, and believe me he isn't worth it. i'm not saying i know what the best course of action is with our receiver or qb situation, but i am saying its a total mess.
Re: The Master "Lets get X Player" for the Vikings Next Year
I like Greg Jennings but my packer sources say he will stay a packer next year, that could just be a packer fans wish. Bowe will be spendy but could be the best choice, I just don't know that much about him. Speed isn't everything. We need a good route runner with good hands.

What WR issues? We need a QB that can play and throw a ball to put the blame on the WRs. Or see Ponder taking coverage sacks. I saw a rookie open all day. The problem is Musgrave and ponder. We could have Marshall and Megatron as our wideouts and what difference would that make? They cant throw to themselves.

Imm not saying our WRs are great. But its like having a car with a blown head gasket, and blaming the transmission for the car not working. You cant know when the car doesnt even run. Ponder needs to watch QBs mechanics. WRs are the very least of our problems.

I'm thinking Kirk Cousins from the skins. Big strong kid from a big school. He's gotta be at least as good as Ponder.

Its pretty obvious we need a wide reciever (or two). I think we need a Calvin Johnson-like wide reciever who is big, tall, and has great hands. I can't think of any wide recievers on our team like that right now, so I think that is a reasonable option.

I would like to see the Vikes trade for Matt Flynn. Flynn is 27 years old and I can't imagine him wanting to sit on the bench, like he has all year, backing up a rookie. I would think that an open competition with him and Ponder could only benefit the team.

That's not a bad idea. Here are Flynn's career stats:Purple bruise wrote:I would like to see the Vikes trade for Matt Flynn. 87/141 (62%), 1081 yards, 8 yards per completion, 9 TD's, 5 INT's, 92 RAT.
Those stats are way better than ponder's, he would not be a bad option.

I agree on their needing a hands/ physical body type WR over a guy with gas. Harvin and Wright both have gas.

Oh no, not a Flynn/Kolb/Random second tier guy. Please no! The guy got beat out by a 3rd round rookie despite his contract and experience. Kolb looked terrible and got beat out by another bum. Even when he was healthy. Take a guy who's at least been competitive for a few years in their career. Smith or Vick is where it's at! Vick on the fast dome turf? Wooow, zooom. Smith caretakering with the occasional ability to make a play? Much better than a guy who's had a few good games filling in on the Packers!!!

I agree, I don't think Flynn is much more than a back up. He lost to Russel Wilson, who is playing well now, but he lost his job to a 3rd round rookie.

What difference does it make if Wilson was a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd round pick. The Rookie is playing at a pro bowl level and has solidified the QB position.MrPurplenGold wrote:

Now her comes the real funny part for me. IF the Vikings got Vick (criminal history, midget, noodle arm etc. etc.) he would be bashed every day as badly or worse than Ponder is by certain fans. Smith got beaten out by a relative rookie also with the Niners and that is why he might be available. Hmmm kind of discounts the argument for not getting Flynn because he has gotten beat out by a rookie

Re: The Master "Lets get X Player" for the Vikings Next Year
Wilson has not been playing at a pro bowl pace all year round, in fact he struggled mightily for stretches early on. Thats what concerns many people about Flynn. Unlike the first round rookies, there is no pressure to force wilson into action so early because that's not expected of a player drafted in the third round. So Flynn was paid to come in and start, but before he even got a chance, he got beat by a up and down raw rookie.
As for flynn's performance with green bay... Kolb looked similarly good in relief of Mcnabb unti he got his own shot to start. Matt cassel looked good for a year in relief of brady. Remember also, there werent many teams in the Flynn sweepstakes last year, not even his former offensive coordinator. Flynn's prospects as a starter are highly questionable, and IMO he's more likely the product of a very successful system in green bay and a great cast of supporting players.
As for the smith comparison, Smith got beat ou by a 2nd year player, not a rookie. He also wasn't beat outright in camp, he was replaced after an injury, after starting all season and playing relatively well
