I think he's referring to during the season. There were rumors we wanted to sign Winfield back until freeman became available. I never saw any substantial reports about it, more so it seemed the media thought it made sense and as often times the media turned "vikings could resign winfield" into "vikings attempted to sign winfield"

Supposedly they used the money to have Freeman come in rather than bringing Winfield back.

... and apparently you're adamant about that! ;)

Maybe whoever you quoted was referring to teams other than the Bears since he's been playing for them all along but from what I hear, the Bears are still interested. I live in Chicago so I've been hearing that for some time but if you want online confirmation, here you go:

http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/bears/t ... nry-melton
Chicago also remains interested in re-signing other free agents such as cornerback Charles Tillman, defensive tackle Henry Melton and backup quarterback Josh McCown. Little information has emerged regarding Tillman’s situation, although he’s been linked to Tampa Bay because of his history with former Bears head coach Lovie Smith. The Bears have worked diligently to bring back Tillman, and it’s likely the effort will continue as the cornerback’s prospects with other teams could be limited by his age.

Melton, meanwhile, has generated interest from multiple teams, including the Dallas Cowboys, according to a league source, which would make sense given the defensive tackle’s familiarity with defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli. That doesn’t mean the Bears won’t be able to re-sign Melton. After all, the Cowboys are tight against their cap, and it’s unknown what kind of money another team might offer Melton, whose value could be diminished since he is coming off an ACL surgery.
I've seen reports that the Bucs are interested too.

The Vikings will host free agent T/G Vlad Ducasse next week.
Ducasse was given countless chances to earn starting jobs at both tackle and guard with the Jets, but proved an utter bust. In Minnesota, he'd likely be competing for a roster spot. The Vikings are strong on the offensive line.
.....I think this is purely for depth purposes. Ducasse would be a "J'Marcus Webb" type signing and provide depth all along the offensive line.

I think if we signed Munnerlyn, Melton, Simpson and either got Sproles, another CB or LB, we would be in great shape headed to the draft.

Minnesota Vikings Free Agency: Captain Munnerlyn To Visit With Vikings: http://www.dailynorseman.com/2014/3/12/ ... th-vikings
Munnerlyn is coming off one of his best seasons, is only 25, and one of his strengths is working from the slot position, an area that could graciously be called a tire fire dropped on top of a natural disaster wrapped around the Polar Vortex for the Vikings in 2013. Don't let Munnerlyn's relatively low number of career interceptions (five) fool you: he's a solid tackler, very good in coverage, and hey, if that doesn't sway you, consider.......

"Munnerlyn spent 406 snaps in slot coverage — the second-highest total in the league — and surrendered an 81.7 passer rating with no TDs on his record. Minnesota’s Robinson-Blanton-Sherels combo of slot work gave up passer ratings of 127.2, 121.0, and 119.3, and five TDs."

We have to sign him

Yes earlier I said it was somewhere between $18 and $21 million after the Joseph signing. We still have plenty of room though. You also have to figure, anyone else we get from here on out, probably won't cost a whole lot. Most of the big names are off the board

Nice! we're a lot better of than i thought we were. I'd say we have room for 1 quality starter player and then add depth to a few positions.

Source: #Vikings have made a call of interest to G Daryn Colledge.
Granted, he is 32 but I just noticed that he has started 124 out of 128 games over 9 seasons in the NFL

Oh wow, didn't know he played most of his time in the slot, he should absolutely be our guy then. Josh Robinson was awful in the slot but if he could go back to his natural position on the outside maybe he can return to the promising young CB he looked like in his rookie year.

i don't think robinson ever looked promising except during his 40 yard combine dash. we still need a legit cb.
