Right and it would be interesting to see how the Wilf's would feel about that. Either way....Zimmer is my #1 choice right now.

My reasons behind that:

1.) Defense is what needs the most help right now
2.) A change in scheme is needed and I really like Zimmer's aggressive 4-3 scheme
3.) Zimmer has done a great job developing LBs over the years (one of our biggest needs)
4.) He gets the most out of his players and puts them in positions to succeed (unlike Alan Williams)
5.) He relies more on man to man coverage which would suit out defensive backfield better
6.) The offense already has many pieces in place (RB, FB, WR, TE, O-line outside of LG) and I believe it would be something a guy like Hue Jackson could work wonders with after we hopefully get our QB of the future in the draft.

Truer words may have never been spoken. I guess we will soon see if Rick has been learning his craft by who he hires. I'm guessing that he will hire someone that will anger most Viking fans. I hope it's the right guy. Hopefully by week 3 we can see some reasons for optimism.

Question: Is Speilman now in charge of what schemes the Viking now run on offense and defense? I mean, he really has an effect on those thing now that he has the hiring authority of the head coach and can simply hire which ever coach runs what he likes.
Makes me curious how deep those interviews go.
Is it just me or is Rick Spielman in a giant conspiracy to upset fans and continue losing? I have a bad feeling he will want a coach like Bevell who is not a popular choice and I somehow believe we will take Derek Carr at 8.

I couldn't agree more. When your D was ranked 31st in scoring, you have to get a good defensive coach. If we get an offensive minded guy, we still are without a QB so it won't really matter.

I like this take too. I don't know anything about Hue Jackson, but I definitely agree that we either need a HC known for developing QB talent or we need an OC that can excel in that role. Certainly, D is our most glaring weakness, though I think we have some puzzle pieces to work with.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Cardinals DC Todd Bowles' interview for the Vikings' head-coaching vacancy went "incredibly well" on Monday.
Rapoport somewhat expects Bowles to be among the final three candidates for the Minnesota job. Browns DC Ray Horton will interview for the gig Tuesday. Bowles, 50, would have a few pieces to build his defense around in Minnesota, including CB Xavier Rhodes, S Harrison Smith, and DT Sharrif Floyd. Rhodes fits Bowles' preference for bigger press corners and played well as a rookie.

LOL! So Rapoport thinks Bowles kinda, might, possibly be one of three candidates who could get the Vikings job. Maybe.

It's actually interesting to hear that the interview went "incredibly well".

I'll bet he'd like a few more pieces than that!

Thanks for the info, NextQuestion.

Interviews are going to go incredibly well for any coach. They're professionals and unless your Mike Priefer who allegedly want to nuke a certain part of the population...the interviews will go well.

Nope, it's gonna be Jay Gruden. And we're going to draft Carr, Bortles, or a 2nd round guy so Gruden can take him under his wing and try to develop him. He developed Andy Dalton into a better quarterback then he really is, and I hope he can do the same with us. As soon as Gruden leaves Cincy, I guarantee Dalton's career goes way downhill.

Anyone see the reports about how Mike Brown wanted Mallet and Kaepernick over Dalton? I wonder about Dalton if he didn't have AJ Green and didn't play in the pedestrian AFC.

FWIW: Bill Parcells gives Zimmer a glowing review (Zimmer worked under Parcells). Parcells said he'd give Zygi a great review. Word has it that the Wilfs are great admirers of Parcells.

Word has it? They've pretty much worn it on their sleeves lol. But that's fine, I like Mike, Zimmer's a winner, Mike to the Vikes! Let's do it!

Looks like we are goong to wait until we interview a bunch of
people; some we will have to wait to until they are eliminated
from the playoffs.. hope this does keep us from getting the
right person.

I worry that Zimmer could be one of those long-time coordinators who's best in that position and not as a head coach. It's a somewhat baseless fear because I can't point to anything about him that suggests that will be the case. It just concerns me that he's been coaching so long and has never been a head coach at any level.

Maybe he'd be great...

People talk about the fear of waiting a long time to get a coach but ARZ waited and got Bruce Arians, who I think...maybe best hire of last year

I would like to see a hire of Todd Bowles or Dan Quinn and than they bring in experienced coordinators. DC-Wade Philips to teach the 3-4 and either Norv Turner or Hue Jackson for OC to teach a QB how to play. Keep Davidson for the Offensive Line and Dunbar for the Defensive Line. Keep are ST Coach unless allegations are true and than we need to dump him. Fire the rest of the staff and start over with young coached who want to teach and prove themselves. :smilevike:
