Put it this way: Philly trades a highly productive and proven RB that does everything well and should continue to do everything well for the next several years for a LB coming off a major knee injury and a single season. The market looks like it will force sense into all sides here. Not surprised if we start hearing AD's stance soften and more positive spin from the Vikings side as well.

He could... but that hasn't happened yet so at the moment, it's a pretty big exaggeration to call it a trade for "nothing".

That's possible... a lot may depend on how important the money is to Peterson in the big picture. It may also depend on what the free agent backs are seeking in compensation, how potential suitors for Peterson see him fitting with their team, etc. I'm still not convinced Murray is going to actually hit the market and there's no comparison between Peterson and Thomas.

Anyway, your points are well taken. I just think there are a LOT of factors in play... and there were several in play in the McCoy/Alonso trade too (like McCoy's cap hit and Alonso's history with Kelly).

Another interesting perspective on the AD situation:

Online sports book Bovada released odds on Thursday for where Peterson will be for Week 1 of the 2015 NFL season, and the Vikings are still the favorite to have Peterson on their roster. Bovada gives them 5-6 odds of having Peterson, with the Dallas Cowboys in second at 9-4. The Indianapolis Colts have 5-1 odds, the Arizona Cardinals are at 9-1, and the San Diego Chargers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are at 10-1.

I don't think I will forget he turned on the organization, but I will still root for him if he is a Viking. I certainly will never buy another Peterson jersey as he will never again be one of my favorite players on the team.

Exactly. Poor Sid has seen his better days, but he often has a pretty good read on where the organization is at.

The real question is this. Does Peterson make a difference. Not sure, but I played with some numbers to see if I could find a trend in how often he runs and the Vikings score/wins. I came up with the following. Now I am not saying he is the only reason for the scores or the wins.

Not sure how you would equate it to wins.

When Adrian plays and has at least:
20 carries, the Vikings average score is 25.1 points per game. .586 win percentage.
15-19 carries, they average 21.3 points per game. .267 win percentage.
14 or less times a game the Vikings average 15.4 points per game. .227 win percentage.

The average score in games he did not play, is 20.4 points per game, with a .348 win percentage.

So you tell me, does he matter?

BTW, In the 15 games he did not play in this past year, I noticed a trend. If you break those 15 games up into 5 game blocks:

1st 5 games they scored 14 points per game.
2nd 5 games they scored 19.6 points per game.
3rd 5 games they scored 24.6 points per game.
