Not sure the '98 Vikings are the best example of a defense that's not capable of stopping anybody. They were sixth in the NFL in points allowed and 13th in yards allowed at about 310 per game. That was a very, very good team in all phases. They weren't a dominant defense, but they didn't have to be.
And I get so tired of this "he can disappear at times" argument. People said that about Randy Moss, too. Again, if you don't think Thomas is worth the money he will command, that's legitimate. But if a guy catches 111 passes for over 1,600 yards and 11 touchdowns, he's not "disappearing" very often, nor is he an easy cover.
Duly noted on both parts. I had not realized that Thomas had done this much. This was this year, right? He went right under the radar with me. I saw a few Broncos games, and must have paid too much attention to Sanders because he was on my fantasy team.

Team could really improve with a great draft. I think we keep AD, have McKinnon and Banyard as backups. Also, have Yankey playing LG next year. DE Crichton moves to LDE next year also.
With these moves, Greenway and Robison are released and offered lower veteran contracts.
Rd 1 trade down adding a 2 and 4 then use to trade back into 1st.
Rd 1 LB Shaq Thompson
Round 1 after trade back into 1st. CB Kevin Johnson
Round 2 WR Vince Mayle
Round 3 S Kurtis Drummond
Round 4 OG Arie Kuondijo
Just some ideas....
Also with the freed up $ from release or restructure of Greenway and Robison we lock up Smith and Kalil. Kalil is probably cheapest right now after 2 dissappointing seasons but played better. If we wait and he has a great year, will cost a fortune.

Way too risky to give Kalil a new contract. Make him prove himself before we pay up. Even if it ends up costing us significantly more it is worth it to make sure we aren't blowing money on a guy who isn't our future at LT. Other than that I like your approach to the off-season. Along with teddys progression I think that makes us a borderline playoff team.

I Agree.
I wish it was the start of next season already

It is a risk, but now we could lock him up at a very reasonable contract, say 6 years $24mil. Dirt cheap for a starting and young LT. Only because he has not earned a big contract. Of course, coaching staff will have to determine if he's worth it. If not we go with a rookie LT again in 2 years or we drop a ton of cash on a FA that won't be much better than Kalil anyways ???
Trust me, really not a fan of Kalils production thus far, but we need a LT with Teddy looking like "that guy"!
Wasn't his rookie year next to Hutchinson?

I still wish they would hire Mike Tice to coach the Line. I just don't have much confidence in Jeff Davidson.

Agreed 100%. Davidson has really done what for our OL ?
Would love Tice back in Purple and Gold.

I kinda wish they had hired Callahan away from the Cowboys. The Redskins got a good line coach in him. I can't believe Davidson is still here.
I wonder how eager Kalil would be to sign an extension as he is just as aware as anyone else about his shortcomings the past 2 seasons. It may be in his best interest to play this season in the hopes he plays closer to his potential, then negotiate at the end of next season.

I wouldn't mind Tice for OL coach again but he already left ATL and is now in Silver and Black.

He also coached up a couple late rounders at C and RG. And has Charlie Johnson wasting space at left guard. Anyone remember how bad Loadholt could be? He seems to be a lot more consistent. Why Davidson gets the hate I don't understand....

I don't think he has done a terrible job, but AD helps make everyone look better.
Sullivan and Fusco were highly regarded out of college. The interior OL was not a highly drafted position in general. They were definitely top 5-6 respectively at their positions.
No AD this year and the OL looked really bad. Kalil has regressed. Johnson is not better. The depth is terrible.
Of course there were injuries, but the OL should have been a strength early on, definitely was not.
Is it all Davidsons fault, No !

Our line has sucked for years. Coaching up a late round prospect doesn't mea much when you can't get the rest of the line to play well.
Btw, if you want to be a long time contributor to the board, I suggest you ease up on the baiting type posts and the immature attitudes. Ive noticed it a lot in your posts and it won't fly here.

I know I have talked some bad things about him before, but if Dez Bryant becomes available, at the right price, would he look good in Purple? I Was thinking about it today. We NEED WR help, and he is young and established, much more established than JEnnings was. His "catch" against the Packers was pretty nice, and he has always been good at going up and getting the ball. His main downside is that he tends to drop some easy balls sometimes, much like Calvin Johnson.

Dez would look AMAZING in Purple and Gold royalty.
Might have to cut AD though?
