I think they'll just take their time unless someone blows Spielman away in an interview and he feels he has to move to sign that coach before another team signs him.

Tony Dungy comments about if he were to be coaching again. He would like to get the Lions HC position.
"Tony Dungy isn't planning on making a return to coaching anytime soon, but if he was going to return, it would be for the Detroit Lions job. In an interview on the Dan Patrick Show this week, Dungy called the Lions job the most attractive opening.
I will tell you this Dan, I think the best job out there is the Detroit Lions," Dungy said. "That's the job I would want, I think they are the closest to the Super Bowl.
Dungy, who coached the Indianapolis Colts to a Super Bowl in 2006, then went on to list the reasons why he thinks the Lions job is the best one."
Frazier and Dungy are two peas in a pod but he sounds like he could be persuaded to come out of retirement. Any thoughts that he might be a good choice for the Vikings?

No, I don't think Dungy is at all interested in coming out of retirement. He only phrased it that way to say that of the current head coaching openings, the Lions job is the best. They certainly have some talent poised to do great things. Stafford, Johnson, Bush, Levy, plus Suh and the rest of that defensive line, must make it attractive.
If anyone had reservations about Leslie Frazier's milquetoast demeanor, Tony Dungy is the last person they would want to replace him. The question that will always plague Dungy is what he would have amounted to without Peyton Manning.

I want Gruden, you know if he gets in a pinch big brother will offer him advice. And I want an offensive head coach, to help groom a potential QB for years. Plus he's young, and can have the job for a long time and offer stability. That is provided the rest of the franchise doesn't run aground, and have to change coaches every 3-4 years.
Could that be why they aren't jumping too fast right now? They want to wait and see on the Bengals guys. That could also be why other teams have been quiet......
They have made it very clear that the search will be extensive. They would like to interview a number of candidates, so I don't believe they are merely waiting for the Bengals coaches to become available so they can hire one of them. They have a list of candidates and they will wait to interview each one before they make a decision. Which means there could be coaches on any of the 8 teams playing this weekend that they will consider[/quote]
I didn't necessarily mean so they can just jump up and hire a Bengal coach. What I meant is, the search and interview process shouldn't be considered complete, until they have been able to drag the waters on all candidates. But for me I think those 2 Bengal guys are both going to be head coaches in 2014.

Bowles on Monday and then Horton on Tuesday huh? I really hope Horton is seriously being considered. I want Cincy to beat the Chargers today, but, I also want this team to interview Mike Zimmer sooner than later too!

We all know Spielman, not Wilf is making the coaching decision. So I'm sure it won't be a great candidate because Spielman is going to want all the control for himself. This could end up disastrous!

Wilf still has to sign off on it. Spielman is running the search and making suggestions. Obviously it's going to be 90% his hire, but he seemed pretty clear that Wilf had final say. If he doesn't want the guy, he isn't getting hired.

The Texans just fired both coordinators. I imagine this is what we will do once we hire a new coach as well.

I kind of hope Cincy loses so we can interview their coordinators sooner.

whether they win or lose, we can interview their coaches next week I believe.
But we just can't hire a coach until his season is over

Looks like you will get your wish that we can interview some losing coaches. One and out! Sounds perfect for us.

Ken Whisenhunt is rumored to be the front runner for the Lions' HC vacancy:

Scratch another one off the list.

We're going to end up with the worst coach, and QB, in the division.
Really hope they do more than interview a dozen high talent "successful" coordinators as their extensive search...

End up? Or more of the same?
