Evan Mathis released from the eagles..... he would fill a hole at LG and make our OL much better, as long as the price is doable. He did leave Philly cause he wanted more money.

I don't think we add Mathis. I could see them sticking with their recent draft picks in Yankey, Clemmings, and Thompson. Already nice sized contracts in Kalil, Loadholt, and Sullivan. Plus Fusco is really good.

True, Fusco has improved but putting Mathis at LG would allow Fusco to go back to his "natural" RG spot. Mathis would also be a nice addition to allow guys like Yankey, Clemmings and Thompson a year or two to improve before being thrust into action. I vividly remember how brutal Fusco was early in his career. I'd prefer we not go down that road again. But maybe Yankey or Clemmings will surprise me if one of them is forced to start. I have to still remember Berger could be a starter this year, too. He wasn't anything special last year but he held his own.

Where is the $ coming from? Do we have enough to sign him?
I just don't think we bring him in. Btw, any word on Babtunde?sp. the massive OL.

I have no inside info and have not read what the "word" is on this cat, but he is a very long shot at best.

Get a guy in there and see what we have. Don't sign a guy some other team thinks is a head case and hope he isn't. We have guys the coaches feel strongly about. Get them some time and hopefully one of them steps up.

Saints signed DT Kevin Williams to a one-year contract.

I believe we have enough money to sign him if we moved a few things around and made some space.
Yes I do believe he(Mathis) would really help our OL and he is a natural LG zone blocker.
I am not sure if we are using a Zone blocking scheme currently. as I stated before I
don't think the Vikings sign him because of the youth movement and wanting to develop
their own type guys(drafting ten guys and signing a large group of UFA guys).
I think we will hide Baps on the practice squad for a year or PUP list
and see what he can become. That is just my opinion BTW. The Vikings gave him
a decent contract for a developmental guy. Part of the reason is the LT spot he
plays.

ESPN 1500 Twin Cities suggests the Vikings could have interest in free agent SS Bernard Pollard.
Pollard hasn’t received any known interest since asking for his release from Tennessee in March. He was playing at a high level prior to going down last year and has ties to Vikings DBs coach Jerry Gray. Minnesota could use an upgrade at safety opposite Harrison Smith, where Robert Blanton, Antone Exum and Andrew Sendejo are competing for roles.

Pollard only played five games last year and had a combined 27 tackles in those games ...
He is thirty years old now and appears to be in decline ...
I would rather have Blanton, Exum, Harris get the job from looking at his stats

Vikings signed WR Ryan Whalen.
Whalen has ties to coach Mike Zimmer from their time with the Bengals. He'll compete for a role on special teams. 26-year-old Whalen is a roster longshot.
