I was watching the game the time Joe Theisman snapped his leg like Cine did. Watched the game where Tatum hit Daryle Stingley and paralyzed him as well. Was watching the game when Tarkenton broke his leg and called for the trainers to come help him. Saw the game where TK got KO’d and convulsed on the field. Those are the ones I can recall off the top of my head. Football can produce some terrible injuries and the players in those incidents had nothing to do with physical conditioning or being injury prone.
My favorite summer sport is Sprint Car racing and that can be more dangerous than football in a lot of respects. Every few years in spite of safety advances we lose a driver or see serious injuries. Some sports carry a certain amount of risk and football is one of those sports.
Remember when E.J. Henderson broke his femur in 2009 against the Cardinals? I sure do. Gave me nightmares. See, I broke my femur playing 8th grade football. I was a receiver, and a pretty fast one. Fastest kid in my grade … or so I thought. Caught a pass in practice one day and was taking it to the house when I got caught from behind. Heard a very loud snap, and wound up on my back with my foot up under my armpit. Spent 8 weeks in the hospital and 8 more in a half body cast. Worst time of my life.
Not surprisingly, that ended my football career. My parents wouldn’t let me near a football field.
Yeah, it’s a violent sport. I can’t imagine what these guys face. The fastest, strongest gladiators on earth trying to destroy each other. A journalist friend of mine has been in the trainer’s room after NFL games. These guys can barely move, they’re so beat up. And those are the ones who DON’T end up on an injury report.
Wishing all the best for Lewis Cine.
Yikes! That's terrible. Sorry you went through that.
I hope Cine is alright and doesn't have any lasting effects. If he can get back to play again that would be great, but I just hope he can walk around and enjoy life without pain.
The injuries and what happens to these player's bodies in the long run has seriously made me consider whether it's hypocritical for me to be a fan. The biggest reason is that my son absolutely will not play football. It's an unnecessarily dangerous sport coming at it from the angle of a parent. Should I be watching a sport I wouldn't let my son play?

That's rough, Kapp. I blew out my ACL and both meniscus playing the violent, grueling sport of tennis LOL. It was five years ago. I'd managed to work my way up to 4.5 level USTA, which I was proud of as I'd never played in college and some guys at that level had. I had some complications in the post-surgery recovery, so tennis is in my past now. These kinds of injuries can change a person's life forever, but there's no better reminder to not take for granted what you CAN still do.
Obviously, NFL players are the cream of the crop of humanity as far as athletic ability is concerned, but we see it all the time and not every recovery goes as well as Adrian Peterson's. I really hope Cine makes a full recovery and is able to continue his NFL career.
We may have been a good match in tennis. I played college if you count Jr. College LOL. I captained a team that dominated at the 4.0 level. Moved up to 4.5 and we were middle of the pack.

That's great. I love tennis. It's a fantastic sport with so much nuance to it. The move from 4.0 to 4.5 was a significant jump here in DFW. Also: when we would play regionals the Dallas and Houston teams were insanely good. Probably lots of sandbaggers, honestly. Our regional tournaments were always in August with on court temps at 115. I'll never forget the 4 ambulances in the parking lots treating folks for heat exhaustion and cramps. The dude I played was young and from San Antonio. He said he LOVED the heat. I'd just spent a month in Northern MN, so I had lost my TX heat shape... that was my only loss that season .

The guy you played was clearly insane so it's good all you lost was the match.
If you only lost once in a season of USTA 4.5 play you were a better player than me. I played mostly doubles, because my skillset was better for doubles than singles. I think I went like 4-4 in 8 matches of 4.5 after going 7-1 at 4.0 the season before. I had an interesting experience my 4.0 year playing doubles against former Governor and Senator of Minnesota Wendell Anderson. My partner and I annihilated them real quick so since we had more time we split teams with me Joining Mr. Anderson and the two of us beat my partner and his partner in a set. Anderson was a much better hockey player than tennis player.

So........was trading our first AND SECOND PICK within our OWN DIVISION A brilliant Draft Day Maneuver Now ? Errrr. Ever.......at all.......
I mean in all fairness, Williams hasnt even played yet for Detroit. And given how we lost Cine for the season due to a freak injury, Booth is back, although I dont see him overtaking Pat P or Dantzler right now, only time will tell. There is 0 way to determine 6 games into their rookie season, if that was the correct move or not.

We would have been better off drafting Hamilton. If we needed to draft a safety at all in the first round, which is insane. Do we have a single starter playing for the Vikes? And no, I dont mean Asamouh on a few plays on ST or maybe D. I am not impressed at all, 6 games in. And I worry about Booth and Evans being injury prone.

Well yeah, Ingram. But Bynum hasn’t been terrible so it would be tough for Cine just to slide in. Booth was hurt yeah but also isn’t unseating dantzler or Peterson right now. So I’m not sure what you really expect with those two 6 games into their rookie season

Is Hamilton any good so far? My preference was Jordan Davis and I know he has been very good so far. However, the logic in the trade was solid. We got a number of players who likely will be very good. Cine, Booth, Ingram and Asamoah.
As for the players Detroit and GB took with those picks. Neither has amounted to anything so far.

Davis has been good and is a monster. 6 6 335. Good luck pushing him around. Hamilton just had his first career sack and had a FF earlier in the year. Cine was 3rd string and that's a problem. Bynum is still learning the position. He was smoked by the Eagles on a bomb when he bite on a short route. But otherwise has played ok. I hate trading away from the talent. You get more bodies but we need more than just bodies. It's too early to give a finale grade but so far we have a punter and a G who have played steady. Ingram can't pass block which is expected from most rookies and won't get any help since Bradbury sucks and the punter has had some monster kicks and one shank that I recall.
The goal of a team is that Rookies do not start !!! You hope to have a roster that consists of players that are better than the new kid. You hope that you have developed players to be better than a kid right out of college. I personally wanted Jordan Davis or Jameson Williams as I felt that they would eventually be legitimate difference makers and are just "different" type of athlete. However, we have a serious need on defense to get faster. We were also transitioning to a 3-4 and had already signed a NT in Phillips and had some other pieces that Donatell obviously felt were adequate. So Cine, Booth, Asamoah, and Evans can all be eventual replacements bringing more speed and length. I felt great about that draft. Ingram is starting on an NFL OL and just came from a college weightroom, not an NFL strength and conditioning program. His weakness right now is just that, he needs to get stronger against these monsters. It will happen though.
