I said the same thing about QB/Hunter in another post. If they can move up getting a guy they really like then that has to be the deal. No more Fing around. This is a strong QB class and were not dealing up from the 20ish pick. Even if Barr needs to be attached with Hunter who cares. If you get that golden QB, Rodgers Mahomes mold, the rest of the team doesn't really need to be that strong. Plus they can deal Cousins at that point. Regardless of the opinions about him he's worth what Stafford was IMO. And many teams need a QB like SF. But seeing how some of us thought about the same thing it will never happen. It will be a trade down from 14 to 20 something and getting a late 2nd and some late who cares picks. That is what will happen. Don't expect the explosion.
One point I missed. Why do we need to be a run team or a pass team? Whats wrong with being balanced? We have that now. I wouldn't bust it up to go one way or the other. We don't have a chance with this sive D we have. Let's focus on that.
We're not all that balanced. The offense works when Cook is on a roll. When he's shut down (see 49ers in the playoffs) or out (see loss to a terrible Atlanta team) the offense struggles. The only game in recent memory I can think of where the passing game bailed out the run was the tie game at the Packers a couple years back. Even the primetime win over the Cowboys that supposedly vindicated Cousins terrible primetime record, it was Cook who basically carried the team.

Unfortunately we can't dump Cousins. His 2022 salary of $35 million becomes fully guaranteed 3 days from now.

That means we'd have to trade him. I'm not sure who would take Kirk Cousins at $35 million, but if there's anybody that stupid, I hope they'll step up.
Ugh. wow. I was looking at Overthecap and it still has 2022 as 35 million in savings and only 10 million dead, but I didn't realize that was about to become guaranteed.

Well, I'd still love to draft a QB even if he has to ride the pine for 2 years, though that takes away some of the financial benefit of having a guy on a rookie deal.
I hope not, Vikings tried that with Ponder and he ended up being a bust

Depends on the QB and where they take said QB.

Ponder was a need reach and was over-drafted as a result. Ponder should probably have gone somewhere in the 4th or 5th round if he was fairly valued against all other prospects coming out that year.

If Ponder is a lesson in anything, it is in fairly evaluating the talent in a given draft and not forcing things if they're not there.

With that said, if the right guy is there at QB at the right point in the draft, the Vikings shouldn't pass on him just because they have more dire needs elsewhere. If they did manage to do that and the guy can sit and learn behind Cousins for a while, even better for his long-term prospects.

Of course, it depends on who is there. I wasn't trying to suggest just forcing a QB pick regardless of which QBs are still available.

When Cook or the ground game is shut down you can't call that balanced. Why do you think teams try to stop the run? Our team now is building up the run defense. You act like teams can win while the ground game is stuffed. It can happen but it becomes much tougher. I think we won week 17 with 400 yards passing. So what. Cook is a fantastic player and yes one could say he carried the team. Ten other guys also played. Kirk as a loser. Yes I know that. Put us in the NFC east and that would change. We will be losers again this year unless Rodgers goes in the tank. If he plays at the MVP level say good night. I know that also.
