LOL, I was born in 1979. Joey browner and Carl Lee were good, but that's as far back as I remember.

I still kinda take offense to the idea that Antoine Winfield, Fred Smoot, or Cedric Griffin weren't good.

Man I was 15 by then. Haha. I loved Browner. He would lay the smackdown on ya. Loved the way he incorporated his martial arts into his game ,the way he used his hands. My 40th birthday present was a trip to Minny to see the Vikes vs Titans in the Metrodome. Browner was part of a radio show outside before the game. Was able to shake his hand , tell him how much I loved watching him play and tell him I was able to meet his brother Ross at Bengals camp when our High School coach took our team to their camp. My daughter told him it was my B day that day and he asked her if she wanted him to get the crowd outside to sing happy birthday. I begged him not to, he just laughed and said I hope you get a birthday victory today. I did. Cool guy.

Browner was like an assassin in the secondary. Not only could he cover, but he had almost this jujitsu ability to tackle. He kind of reminded me of Carl Eller in that sense. Neither guy was particularly large for their position, but they could launch themselves at opponents like a panther and just end whoever was unfortunate enough to be on the receiving end of that launch. Some guys are known as big hitters, but Browner was what I would call a lethal hitter - if he got even a hand on a guy, that guy was done, and that was true almost no matter the size difference between Browner and the guy he was tackling. Still remember the one-armed horse collar tackle Browner managed on a RB who otherwise looked certain to reach the endzone. Browner caught up to him with just enough time to leap forward, grab onto the back of his shoulder pads with one arm, and pulled him down immediately, short of the endzone. I think the RB broke his leg or something on that play too. Just crazy athleticism on display there. I felt bad for the RB, but I could not believe that Browner was able to catch him, much less take him down so completely using just one arm.

Browner's ability with the Horse Collar tackle and his injuring an opponent or two doing it was the reason for anti horse collar tackle rule.

I don't think it's due to one person but if it was, it would definitely be Roy Williams. The NFL didn't ban it until 13 years after Browner retired so I don't think he had anything to do with the rule change.
