let me rephrase. having peterson is holding teddy back. he's not a good drop back/play action qb like turner needs for this offense. teddy was more efficient last year in the spread/shotgun, which is not a set that peterson can run well from
That makes a lot of sense to me, he was reading defenses better and getting rid of the ball a lot quicker last year without AD in the line up. Now he has to turn his back to the defense, play action fake, then start surveying the field.
Peyton looked absolutely awful under center (granted he's been awful most of the year!) so it's definitely a thing.
Seems like it comes down to putting Teddy in a better position to succeed or AD since he sucks at running out of the shotgun.
it's amazing how adding peterson has made turner a bad coordinator. norv has his faults, one is his hard headeness which i saw first hand here in san diego when he coached rivers. they lost the entire pro bowl left side of their line(marcus mcneil and kris dielman), but insisted on calling the same plays for rivers which lead to over 20 picks and 30 sacks allowed. i see the same thing with norv this year. bad line or not he's calling the same plays whether it's getting his qb killed or not. i like the guy, but i think we may need a more flexible, younger voice for the offense.
THANK YOU!
That article was spot on IMO.
I totally agree that to run Norv's system effectively in this era is not sustainable due to slaray cap restraints.
What the patriots do is where the curve is.
Take for example that Brady is the all time leading passer for the pats but has never played with the leading rusher or receiver. I would be hard pressed to name one guy other than Moss and possibly their big TE that will be a HOFer.
They exploit mismatches wherever they can on a game to game basis. The system is completely 'agnostic'.
I'll be really curious to see how the Vikes address their issues this off season.
I have my doubts about their willingness to shed the run first idetnity...especially if Norv is defacto co-head coach. But I just don't think his system will work here....not until they build a monster line over a few years and 'capstrate' themselves in the process.
The Atlanta game just made me less a believer in Norv than I ever have been.
The 2 min drill at the end if the half I was like WTF not one shot taken downfield at all? The playcalling on that drive made absolutely zero sense. All to set up a 51 yard field goal?
Was there one pass over 20 yards attempted the whole game? If teddy doesn't have time to throw roll him out, do something.....
It just really frustrates me to see teddy not do anything all game, and it makes me think it is Norvs fault.

Honestly forget about Patterson, they can't even get Wallace or CJ involved in the offense and that's a huge problem. I thought Norv did a good job of scripting the first two drives but after that it was the "22" personnel package that we live and die by.
If I'm Seattle, I have Sherman shadow Diggs and just load the box. The Vikings simply have to find a way to beat that. Granted Rudolph is stepping up a lot but you can't run an offense with 1 WR. It was also nice to see some screens today. I think the offense is evolving but not as quickly as it needs to when we start playing the teams at the top of their game.

I agree. AD is having another 2012 like season and it is saving us right now. Like Craig said before, it is Norv's JOB to get these players the ball.
The Devil whispered in the Viking's ear, "There's a storm coming." The Viking replied, "I am the storm." #SKOL2018

Norv looked pretty pissed that Teddy didn't throw it on one possession early in the game, when they showed him in the box (I believe after Teddy scrambled for 2). Not sure if anybody else noticed this.

I didn't. I'll have to watch for that and see what happened on the play.
I like the idea you put forth in another thread: tell him he has some INTs to "spend" the rest of the season. He needs to become less cautious.

I saw that. It reminded me of Harvin being pissed at Ponder.
It was good to see Norv visibly frustrated...stillI think his adjustments could stand to be a bit more nuanced. I liked the screens, they were very effective and i think it was a good gameplan...poor execution.
Why? the debate rages on.
