I wonder if McCarthy will take over play calling.

I'm not sure if my post came across as complaining/whining, but that's not how I intended it! I'm just genuinely surprised that the vibe of the fanbase isn't pure energy this week!Mothman wrote: We're still on page 1 of your thread, DK.![]()

Re: Week 11 Predictions: Vikings vs Packers
I'm not much of one to believe for a second that Packers are the new cellar dwellers, I mean, they're one game from first in the division and people are running around squawking like Rodgers is a bum and that team outright sucks... It's like goldfish memory* in the football world.Jordysghost wrote:The Packers are a dangerous team when they are wounded, and they are right now. Wounded enough to light a fire under there ####? We will see.
If you get the late game Packers that led rallies against the Panthers and Lions, it will be a tough game, if you get the pre late 4th quarter Packers, well, then consider yourself 2 games up.
Teams have bad weeks, all of them otherwise upsets would be a rarity not a common theme. Take Giants and Pats, Yeah that was close... and that's a 5/5 team almost knocking off an undefeated lets let reality sink in for a minute... Not to mention if we're a great team SF should be undefeated right now, any given Sunday folks.
I need to think about my predictions but if you ask me this is the hardest (and possibly the most important up until now) game we have played all year. If we stomp the Packers I'mma drink a gallon of purple kool-aid but for now I think this game is going to be a brutal one and possibly be a reality check.
No offense Jordy but I hope your team is really on the ropes but I'm not fool enough to take that as a certainty.
*I know this is actually untrue as goldfish do retain memory but I couldn't think of a better way to convey the point.
Edit: Yeah I do have faith in my team and some confidence but just like letting the kid play near an electric socket where they stop playing next to it after a nasty shock or two I just can't let my guard down in a Packers game.

It's the Vikings! People have learned to look at these big games with a measure of both dread and eager anticipation.

Too soon for me. I'm still glowing over the win over the Raiders.DK Sweets wrote:I'm not sure if my post came across as complaining/whining, but that's not how I intended it! I'm just genuinely surprised that the vibe of the fanbase isn't pure energy this week!
We just took an offense that has been hammering people and shut them out for the entire second half. I'm jacked about THAT!
At the end of the game in the final seconds, when the outcome was no longer in doubt, I was still glued to the TV. Know why? I didn't want Oakland to score a garbage TD. I cheered just as loudly for the final incompletion as time expired as I did for CP's kickoff return, or AP's TD run.
We just won 30-14 on the road. Probably 3/4 of the experts didn't believe we could hold Oakland to under 30 points, let alone actually win. So give me a day to soak in the goodness before I start worrying about the Fudge Packers.

Go ahead. I dare you.
Underestimate this man.

I doubt it, play calling isn't our issue, execution is our issue.fiestavike wrote:I wonder if McCarthy will take over play calling.

Rodgers didn't cry any his first 5 and a half years as a starter where our offensive lines were atrocious, I highly doubt he does Sunday.Norv Zimmer wrote:Vikings win and win big. 34-17
The defense is going to be dominant at home, AP is gonna have a huge game, teddy will be teddy, and rudolph CATCHES THE DAMN BALL!
I really am not to worried about the packers, Rodgers doesn't look like himself, not at all.
I mean c'mon they just lost to the lions in green bay, a Lions team that we dominated twice.
Rodgers is gonna get sacked a lot, he will probably start crying.... I really thought he was gonna cry yesterday.

It always seems to be a nail-biter, regardless of records. The Vikes need to play mistake-free, like the Oakland game. If they do, they win by 10 pts. If they don't, it's gonna be really close.

Re: Week 11 Predictions: Vikings vs Packers
All I know is I will be ready to blow my brains out after the first quarter because that pile of #### Joe Buck will be calling the game. His love for Rodgers is undeniable. I can't stand him.
Anyway, Minnesota has a legitimate shot to win. But just because Green Bay is losing right now doesn't mean they still aren't a good team. I mean, historically, James Jones has always gave us fits. Cobb slaughtered us the past two seasons.
It is a little too early in the week to predict anything - I will when the week draws near its close.

Re: Week 11 Predictions: Vikings vs Packers
From my perspective the team is winning yes, but the games are all very close and could have gone either way. While the defense has shown itself to be championship caliber, the offense much of the time cannot get out of their own way. So far they've beaten the Lions(2x), bears, Chiefs, Chargers, Rams, and Raiders, none of them are exactly juggernauts. So I guess you could say my concern is any team that has an offense with the potential to put up some points should be a concern. Yes the Vikes defense is top notch, but all it takes is a couple mistakes and a game can quickly be out of reach of the Vikes offense.DK Sweets wrote:I'm not sure if my post came across as complaining/whining, but that's not how I intended it! Without an offense with quick strike ability every game is going to be left in the hands of the defense, at some point they're bound to have an off game. Combine that with the Packers being off their offensive game and the Minnesotan in me just cannot help but expect them to get back on track at the worst possible time for the Vikings.

Perfect, that is what I was trying to say, but in fewer words and actually made the point. LOLMothman wrote:

Re: Week 11 Predictions: Vikings vs Packers
I just cant see us going 6 in a row at the expense of the Pack. I think we will make the playoffs but I think we are going to lose to the Packers this week, reel and lose next week, then right the ship and work into the post season.
I will be giddy if we win and for the first time in a long while I am not entirely certain while I predict this loss but I am not confident enough yet in the vikings to say we beat the Packers.
Here are my breakdowns
10% chance we got blown out badly
20% chance we get beaten
15% chance we beat ourselves
25% chance we lose a close one
15% chance we win a close one
10% chance we win pretty solidly
5% chance we dominate
One thing I am very excited for however is Zimmer VS Aaron Rodgers. I am hoping that Zimmer somehow manages to get Aaron's "number" the same way the Pats got Peyton's. Even if we lose, if our Defense brutalizes Rodgers and forces some turn overs or a lot of sacks I will be giddy from now on when Zimmer's Defense faces down the Packers.

Re: Week 11 Predictions: Vikings vs Packers
I really don't know what to say after the Lions beat the Packers in Lambeau as double digit underdogs for the second time in basically my adult life. The Lions games were comfortable wins for us. The only fault was a very poor 14/3 first quarter in the second game. We tied their score or out scored them in 6 of 8 quarters. The first game we got 200 yards rushing and the next we had 300 yards passing and 2 TDs.
The rushing disparity gives us hope. We are number 1 in yards per game, tied for second in yards per attempt, have 9 TDs on the ground, etc. The Packers obviously are not built like that but they are a mediocre rushing team now.
I know they didn't have Eddie but 18 attempts for 47 yards against the Lions? They are not a 1-2 punch team, that is for sure.
I know this reeks of Jobber/Homer/Meatball "Common Opponent" and "Transitive Property" baloney sausage, especially after they beat the 49ers and we looked like Prime Time Garbage against them, but it stands. We had 113 rush yards and took the Broncos to the limit. The packers had 140 yards TOTAL and lost by 19.
Another zesty SPICY common opponent argument? Look at their Chargers game where Phillip Rivers had over 500 yards passing yards and the Packers won by 7. We held Rivers to under 300 yards, sacked him 4 times, held them under 100 yards rushing and gave up a late TD to their second stringer in Garbage Time and won 31-14. It was probably our most commanding victory of the year.
Here is another point. Everybody says the Vikings never beat anybody worth anything, Well, who the hell have the Packers beaten? Bears, Seahawks, Chiefs, 49ers, Rams, Chargers with 4 of those wins at Lambeau. The 4-5 Bears, the 4-5 Chiefs, the 4-5 Seahawks, the 4-5 Rams, the 3-6 49ers and the 2-7 Chargers. It's the same problem if not worse.

I'm assuming we get Buck this week?
How sweet it would be to beat the Packers AND shut Buck up at the same time.
