As for the OL, I have been critical of Jeff Davidson for a long time, and I still believe he cannot coach average players to excel. How does a guy with the skills and physical presence of Matt Kalil suddenly find himself a turnstile? And Loadholt SHOULD be a dominant player, but he has never risen above pedestrian. That all points to a coach who gets just enough from his players, and maybe causing some to regress. This OL is the very weakest part of this team, and has been for a few years. I've taken all I can and I can'ts take no more!

LOL! You have been critical of Davidson for a long time and considering how that line has played in recent years, he deserves the criticism. The Vikes need to find a better OL coach.

How about AN OL coach period. I think Lindsay Whalen would be abetter coach than Davidson.

no we need to do what dallas has done and draft Oline in the first and 2nd rounds for 1-3 years and commit to winning in the trenches.

Or just draft late round guys and when they're average extend them for five years

Oh, and ignore your left guard spot entirely. You can throw a free agent tackle there, what the hey!

How do you fix this mess? All of our players are extended. The only viable spot to upgrade is left guard. Kalil, WTF, I don't even know anymore. Loadholt looks like he has completely lost the ability to move laterally. Sullivan is looking just awful. Vladimir? I don't even want to go into detail.

It is not physically possible to blow up this entire line. I don't know what there is to do though. Maybe Kalil would be better suited for right tackle. Maybe we need to draft a new blindside protector.

There is a reason why many of us questioned the decision to resign these players to long-term deals. Heck, I think resigning Fusco may prove to be a mistake too.

I don't even know what to suggest to fix this mess. Sullivan and Fusco I think are solid. Loadholt basically got extended for Peterson's sake, and I think we knew it was too much from the beginning. With Peterson gone, it becomes a glaringly obvious that it was a misallocation of funds. Kalil has looked rough, but I'm not quite ready to give up on him yet.

Maybe a new coach, a new LG and a new RT could stabilize everything? I'm not even sure if I believe that's the best route, though. Maybe dump Kalil and keep Loadholt? Maybe dump all three positions?

 Yeah Fusco was top 10 in run and pass blocking last year according to PFF but yeah...thats just average right?? .....and ignoring the LG spot entirely huh?? Must be why they drafted Yankey in the 5th

I mean we could have took a LG at #9, but then you would complain about our OLB spot

Or maybe at 32 we could have drafted a LG.....but then we would be starting Ponder right now and of course everyone would be complaining about that.

Wait what about in the 3rd?? Oh well....we would have Asiata and Banyard as our only RBs

Bottom line is.....you can only assess so many positions at once. Spieman addressed LG in the 5th and obviously there wasn't much hope of addressing it any earlier than that.

But its been going on for years, not just last year. We don't have the physical ability on the O Line to be very good because we haven't invested in the position and Kalil has been a bust.

The irony of this is that the two high draft picks we did invest in the oline (Kalil 1st round, Loadholt 2nd round) are the two players getting the most negative attention from the fanbase. The two starting olinemen who were drafted in the lower rounds (Fusco and Sullivan) are the two widely considered as our best offensive linemen. And then there's Johnson.....

FYI, Profootballfocus ranks the offensive line as 25th worst in the league. I can see that.

25th worst? So the seventh-best? Hooray!

I know it should be 'best' ... but right now I'm having a hard time including the word 'best' in posts about the Vikings offensive line.
